FISD Early Childhood School
Where the Adventure Begins...
HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Happy Friday, everyone! Our teachers and students have been working so hard to complete beginning year assessments! Your child's teacher will be reaching out to you soon, if they haven't already, to schedule a time for y'all to meet to look at where your child is currently performing, and what their goals are for the year. Thank you for working to find a time to come!
All t-shirt orders have been sent home! We do have some additional X-Small and Small shirts available in the front office if you weren't able to order one. Just pop in, or send cash and a note with your child and we'll send that home for you! The cost is $12, cash.
We need your help with carpool! For those students that come in the morning for either a full day program or the AM session, I'm sure you have noticed that we have SO MANY cars! We have about 300 more students arriving in the morning than at midday and we can all tell. What would be a great help is if you would consider having your child ride our school bus that picks them up at the elementary campus your address feeds into and ride that to school! The great thing is the students LOVE riding the bus! The other great thing about our buses is that there is a driver AND a monitor! So 2 adults on every bus. This will help us get students into the building faster which will also reduce our car line time. I have included those pick up times just below here so you'll know what time to drop your child. It's super easy! Here is what you need to do:
1. Determine what your home school is based on your address.
2. Find that school below to see when to have your child to the bus.
3. Load your child on the bus and give the driver your child's name so he can add them to his roster.
That's it! So easy and then you won't have to sit in any more car lines! For those that do use the car lines, thank you for your patience. We go as fast as we possibly can to unload every student safely. And with this age, that takes time.
The other thing we'd like you all to keep in mind is that parking and walking your child in because you have somewhere to go is not an option. All parents have somewhere they need to go after dropping their child at school. If you are going to be tight on time, then you need to get to school earlier so you can be closer to the front of the carpool line. We all have families and have to make time adjustments to fit our schedules. Thank you for following our procedures and be courteous to other families as well.
Don't forget that next week is a short week! Students do NOT have school Friday, October 5th or Monday, October 8th!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Parent Notes!
When you send a note to school about your child, please make sure to include your child's name, their teacher's name, and the date! This will help make sure we are documenting the right information for the right student. Also, don't forget that we must receive notes within 3 days of any absence for the note to count. Thanks so much for your help!

School districts all over Texas and the nation will focus on Red Ribbon Week at the end of October. Red Ribbon Week was established to promote drug-free schools. Teaching young children about this topic can be tricky. At ECS, I prefer to focus on healthy habits and safety. Beginning next week, PreK classes will discuss ways we can grow healthy brains and healthy bodies. We will also talk about which people they can trust to give them medicine and vitamins.
During our Red Ribbon lesson, we will read the book Sarah’s Sick Day by Erainna Winnett and discuss Sarah’s decisions in the story. Take heart, the book shows things our students are already familiar with: feeling sick and medicines in the home. We will also sort common household object that are safe to put in our bodies and object little hands should not touch, like medicine containers. Students will also learn to first ask parents before eating things like candies, soft drinks, and other treats. These foods may taste yummy, but only parents can decide if it’s appropriate to have. We will have fun learning about “Oh, The Things You Can Do That Are Good for You!”
Here’s how parents can support a healthy lifestyle:
· Keep communication open and use “teachable moments” which occur in daily life
· Use a calm voice and use words your child can understand
· If they see a movie or show with a character using cigarettes or alcohol talk about it with your child
· Talk about the “drugs” that help when sick
· Talk about who can give medicine to your child
· Talk about what happens if a child takes too much medicine or the wrong kind
· Talk about how unhealthy activities will hurt future dreams and goals
· Talk about healthy practices which will help achieve dreams and goals
In our PPCD classrooms, we begin the Baby Doll Circle Time curriculum by Dr. Becky Bailey. The curriculum supports social play skills like attunement and attachment through play. Our first lesson support the following skills: Impulse/emotional control, prioritization, working memory. The lessons not only enhance positive relationships, but are very fun for our students, too.
