The Future of Learning Has Arrived
Palmer Elementary Chosen as Grant Finalist
Have you noticed how much your child learns when they’re interested in what they’re doing? Imagine a teacher’s dilemma when faced with 25-30 students with unique interests and learning styles. In such a diverse setting, traditional lecture-based classes will inevitably reach some children while leaving others bored, confused or behind. What if there’s another way? What if there’s a way to create a classroom filled with passionate learners who each have the opportunity to move forward?
Palmer Elementary, along with five other DPS schools, has been selected as a finalist in a design-based grant process sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Mr. Clark (First Grade), Mr. Murphy (Fourth and Fifth Grade) along with Dr. Bieneman and Assistant Principal Schokmiller are working hard to develop an innovative and sustainable plan for the future of learning at Palmer Elementary.
Some highlights of what the plan may incorporate:
Your School, Your Voice
Does all of this seem a bit vague? The specifics of the plan are still being developed. Plan development is a community process. The Palmer community's input on how these innovations should look is essential. Students, parents, and teachers alike have a stake in this school and its future. Between now and the final presentation December 15, the Grant Team will be asking for input through surveys and possibly a focus group.
Have you ever had a teacher ask you how to teach? This is a chance to have your voice heard. Please take a few minutes to complete the first survey.
