about our land
The Ethiopian landscape is largely formed from a high volcanic plateau. It is surrounded on three sides by low-lying desert. The average height of the plateau (the Ethiopian highlands) is over 2000 meters. Moreover, there are more than 20 mountains over 4000 meters. The Ethiopian highlands are bisected by the Rift (Rift Valley). This begins at the Red Sea, then runs across Africa and ends only in Mozambique. In addition to mountainous areas, southwestern Ethiopia has savannas and rainforests. Many rivers originate in the mountains, including the best known Blue Nile. There are also some very fertile areas with beautiful lakes and valleys.
The plateau has a long and a short rainy season. The rainy season is strongly influenced by the monsoon from the Indian Ocean and runs from late June to late September. The rain can cause flooding. Fields flood and roads are washed away. In the months March, April and May it rains, albeit much less than during the rainy season.
In Ethiopia, live close to 80 million people. They belong to many ethnic groups, who often speak their own language. In the central highlands, in terms of surface area, it's as large as France and almost everyone lives on agriculture.

It was first performed when the Emperor was crowned Emperor on November 2, 1930 and remained the national anthem until the emporer was overthrown by socialist army officers in 1974 and the socialists fully gained control of the government in 1975. work cited http://www.nationalanthems.info/et-75.htm
March Forward, Dear Mother Ethiopia
Respect for citizenship is strong in our Ethiopia;
National pride is seen, shining from one side to another.
For peace, for justice, for the freedom of peoples,
In equality and in love we stand united.
Firm of foundation, we do not dismiss humanness;
We are peoples who live through work.
Wonderful is the stage of tradition, mistress of proud heritage,
Mother of natural virtue, mother of a valorous people.
We shall protect you - we have a duty;
Our Ethiopia, live! And let us be proud of you! work cited
