Message From The Principal
Parents, students and staff,
I would like to pass along some information we received from Oswego High School for our 8th grade students who will be attending OHS next year.
Hello Future Oswego Panthers and Families!
November kicks off our three (3) month course selection process. On November 23, 2021 at 8 a.m. the 2022-2023 School Year Course Selection process will begin via the Tyler portal. Below, you will find a detailed timeline, as well as how to support your student in completing their piece of the process.
Teacher Recommendations (11/16/21-11/21/21) - Teachers make recommendations for the next year in all of the core academic areas, and also Spanish. These recommendations will appear in the “Student Course Requests” in Tyler. If a teacher did not enter recommendations, students should still select the next level of the course.
Student Course Requests (11/23/21-12/3/21) - Students will be selecting their elective classes via Tyler. Please utilize the following documents for your course requests:
- The Course Catalog - lists all available classes, and includes course descriptions and prerequisites..
- Complete Course Selection Instructions - gives instructions for making course selections in Tyler. Also has links to applications for any classes requiring them. Includes a 4-year Plan worksheet and OHS graduation requirements
8th Grade Course Verification Appointments (December 2021) - 8th grade students are encouraged to view these slides before making their course selections: Welcome Class of 2026!
OHS Counselors meet with students at each of the junior highs regarding course selection and meet with students to verify their choice. Any questions regarding core placement or elective choices can be directed to the student’s current junior high counselor. Any questions that cannot be answered will be forwarded to the OHS freshman counseling team for follow up.
Students with last names A-Ln will work with Mr. Dave Mattes and students with last name Lo-Z will work with Mr. Chris Hupke. Students with Section 504 plans will work with Ms. Abigail Jambor. Students in Special Programs (STARS/Life Skills Program/DHH) will work with Ms. Amy Rux. Students in the AVID and English Language Learners programs will work with Dr. Patti Marcinko.
Thank you,
Mrs. Parker

Character Counts
Kindness, Character and Stripes at Thompson!
We are happy to report that we are bringing back some pre-Covid initiatives to foster an environment of positive energy, good character and school spirit here at Thompson!
We are going to start our weeks with Kindness Mondays! We encourage students to wear shirts with messages of kindness and caring every Monday. We will have special announcements that will promote ideas for showing kindness to others and to ourselves.
On Wednesdays, we will be celebrating Character Counts! We will have announcements on Wednesdays that will explain the character pillar of the month and offer ideas, suggestions and food-for-thought on how our Tigers can exemplify good character all the time, in and out of school. Starting in December, our staff will hand out Tiger Tickets to students that they find are demonstrating excellent character and the student will turn that in for a small piece of candy or trinket and then put that ticket in their grade-level bin. Each Wednesday we will draw 3 winners from each grade and they will receive a bigger prize! Thank you to our Home and School organization for making this possible through their generous support!!
Finally, we will wrap up every week with Show Your Stripes Friday! We will announce every week what the theme for Friday will be and students and staff are encouraged to wear something that represents the theme. This is a fun way to promote school spirit and a sense of community.
Look for these initiatives to start in December and continue for the rest of the year. Want to help? We would appreciate any donations of individually wrapped Jolly Ranchers or Starburst candies along with local gift cards in $5 increments that we will use as prizes. Please bring donations to the main office labeled “Character Counts.” Thank you!!

The toy or item can be brought to Mrs. Pethoud (in the gym) during SST time.
Collection will happen now through December 10th!
Thank you in advance for your participation in this great cause!

Oswego Library Cards
This is a friendly reminder about the partnership we have with the Oswego Public Library District. This partnership has been created to give all students in SD308 access to the digital resources available through our public library. Some of our SD308 students don't live within the boundaries of the library district, so they have not had access in the past. In addition, many of those that do reside within the library district boundaries, do not have cards, or have misplaced their cards so they no longer have access. This new partnership will give all students access to the amazing resources our public library has to offer! There are so many great databases and ebooks that students may use for research, homework, classwork and personal enjoyment.
Thompson Reading Program
The Thompson Reading Program starts September 13th! Students who choose to participate need to read 3 books from either the 2021-2022 Caudill Books or the Tiger Tales lists. After reading a book, they complete a book review and receive a prize.
Book Review Form:
https://forms.gle/RCLUJKai74g435Yd8
After 3 books, they qualify for the Spring Reading Celebration!

From the Front Office
Masks - We ask that you please send a fresh, clean mask to school with your child daily. We are seeing an increased amount of students coming directly to the office in the morning to grab a mask for the day. While we do love helping our Tigers, our supply of masks must be reserved for emergency situations. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Outside/Vendor Food - Outside vendor foods are not permitted in the lunchrooms this year. We cannot accept a delivery from a vendor (store or delivery such as Grub Hub) on behalf of a student. If a parent delivers outside food, the student will be able to receive their lunch, however, will need to eat in the Main Office and then return to lunch. Thank you.
Food Pantry
The district runs a satellite location of the Kendall County Community Food Pantry the first Friday of every month from 6-7:30. We provide supplemental food for families in the SD308 boundaries, as well as those who live in Kendall County. Please encourage families that you work with to attend if they have a need.
Food is available for staff as well. If you are in need of supplemental food once a month, you are welcome to visit the pantry. If privacy/confidentiality is a concern, please reach out to Heidi Podjasek at hpodjasek@sd308.org of x3667 and we will discuss a plan to maintain your privacy from other staff and families.
Volunteers are always needed and welcome! Please click here to apply as a NEW volunteer. If you've volunteered with use before, and would like to do so again, click here.
For more information, please visit our website at www.sd308.og/foodpantry or contact Heidi Podjasek, Director of Social Emotional Learning at x3667. Thank you!!
Conflict Resolution
Are you having problems with another student
that you would like resolved?
Or do you know of a friend who has ongoing problems with a specific student?
Almost all students who have a confrontation say that there has been a history between the two that has been going on for a while. Instead of letting those feelings continue to build up, consider trusting Mr. Buono to assist in resolving the ¨beef.¨
Fill out the 5 second form by scanning the QR code. Mr. Buono will then set up a time to talk to you and decide if we can all sit down for a peer mediation session to calm things down.
*If you have any questions/comments/concerns, you can also email Mr. Buono: NBuono@sd308.org
