Hongwu commanded a rebel army that drove Mongols out of China. Yonglo launched the first of the seven voyages of exploration. The Forbidden City was called forbidden because it kept out commoners and foreigners. It was a place where the future emperors were to live.
Shoguns, Tokugawa, and Closed Country
Tokugawa Ieyasu became the shogun, or sole ruler of Japan. He moved the capital of Japan to a small fishing village named Edo, later It became the city of Tokyo. The Closed Country policy was in order to keep the Europeans out in order to avoid any adoption of European culture or traditions.
