Alief ISD Spotlights, Communications and Announcements
Alief ISD was recently awarded various awards for fiscal responsibility.
- Meritorious Budget Award: This award is given by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for the 2022-23 Annual Budget Document. In order to qualify for this award, the budget document is reviewed by a panel of experts based on a long list of specific criteria and required components. Alief ISD has received this recognition for more than 25 years.
- Purchasing Award of Merit: The Texas Association of School Business Officers (TASBO) has named Alief ISD as a recipient of the TASBO Award of Merit for Purchasing Operations for the 11th consecutive year. This award recognizes Texas school districts, open-enrollment charter schools and education service centers that are committed to following professional standards in the acquisition of goods and services. Alief ISD and 50 co-recipients will be honored at an event in February.
- Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting: This award is given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. To receive the Certificate of Achievement, a governmental entity must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, whose contents conform to program standards. Reports must also satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements. This award is for the report submitted for the 2020-21 fiscal year. The district has received this award for more than 34 years.
- Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting: Alief ISD also received this award for the district's 2020-21 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) presents this award to districts that are meeting the program’s high standards for financial reporting and transparency. Alief ISD has received this award for more than 34 years.
Two Kerr High School students were selected to perform in the All-State Jazz Band by the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB).
Alto saxophone player Daniel Cobos and tenor saxophone player Mark Wright both earned 1st Chair in the ATSSB All-State Jazz Band. They advanced through multiple rounds of auditions with hundreds of other students to be selected as the top Jazz Alto Saxophone player and the top Jazz Tenor Saxophone player in the state of Texas for 1A through 4A schools.
Cobos and Wright will perform with the ATSSB All-State Jazz Band at the Texas Music Educators Conference in San Antonio in February.
