Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,

We launched May with Teacher Appreciation Week, Cinco de Mayo, and May the 4th Be With You. We celebrated Moms and were teased with a little bit of nice weather. We have some great stuff coming up as we enter the final stretch of the year.

~ Teacher Appreciation Week ~

Once again we are humbled by the show of appreciation. Our week began and ended with food (always a hit), the Breakfast Cart & Lunch. In between, we received plants, gift baskets, school supplies, and notes of appreciation.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!

~ COVID Cases ~

As I am sure you are aware, COVID cases are on the rise. Staff, students and families have all been affected (and infected). The COVID-19 Dashboard remains up on the District website to provide you current information. You can also Click HERE.

Some Reminders

  • We still have testing kits if you need them, just ask
  • Please keep students home that are displaying symptoms (fever, tired, cough, achy)
  • Check with Nurse Julie if you have questions or are unsure of what to do (johnsonj@newtown.k12.ct.us)
  • Remote Learning remains an option for quarantining students

Upcoming Events

Our PTA has 2 Wonderful Upcoming Events for Hawley Families.

  1. BINGO Night is THIS Wednesday, 5/11, 6:30-7:30 Live & In-person at Hawley. It has been a while since we held this event. We are so excited to have it this year. Space is limited so you do have to register. Click HERE for more information.
  2. Pizza Fundraiser. Thursday, 5/19, if you place an order at Project Pizza and mention the Hawley PTA, we get a "piece of the pie." Project Pizza will donate a portion of the days money earned to the Hawley PTA. Click HERE for more information about how you can enjoy Great Food and raise money for Hawley!

Important Reminders / General Info

  • Apple Watches are a wonderful item but a bit overwhelming for our age group. Students should not be texting home or video taping/taking pictures of other students. iphones are allowed if needed for after school contact, but need to be kept in backpacks. We can not be responsible for these items and they will be collected for parents to come pick up. Thank you for your understanding.
  • COVID tests are still available, please let us know if you need more
  • Now that we are having Volunteers back in the building, remember to be able to Volunteer, you need to fill out a Volunteer Waiver Form. They are available on our Website under Parent Resources on the very top bar (Click Here).
  • Thank you for your continued support and for all the kind words and messages. They truly keeps us going!

Out of the Mouths of Babes.....

Mr. M asked a student if they wanted to hear a Mother's Day joke and the student said sure, but actually had a better punchline than Mr. M.

" Why did mom's Mother's Day gift arrive the day after Mother's Day " asked Mr. M

" Why? " the student inquired

" It was choco-LATE " chuckled Mr. M

" Ah, funnier if you said that Dad ordered it LATE " the clever student quipped
