HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term4 Week 5 - 13 November 2020
FROM GEORDIE
Afternoon all,
As I walked into school this morning the wind was blowing gently, the birds were chirping, teachers were enthusiastically preparing for the day and there was the most beautiful screeeeeech of an angle grinder cutting through brick and metal that filled the air. I have never been happier to hear that sound…
This week I am ecstatic to announce that we have seen movement with the Stage 11 Build. Our new site office has been delivered into the staff car park and today the plumbers were here to move some of the services ready for site works to begin next week. He was a bit soggy by the end of it, but he pushed through the rain on Day 1 which I am pretty happy about.
Here at HR our Year 5 class are currently involved in their Leadership Day in preparation for next year. I have spent a bit of time in Year 5 this term and have been really impressed with their leadership skills and maturity. I am looking forward to working closely with them all next year.
For those who haven’t been at HR for long, next Friday is Transition Day for our PP to Year 5 Classes and our class lists will go out via SeeSaw on Friday morning to parents. Some of our classes have been changed for 2021 and some have stayed the same. The reason we do this is we believe it is important for students to broaden their friendship groups and also to deepen their relationships. For those classes that have been changed, teachers have been working very hard to finalise these lists and I can assure you that many robust discussions go into doing the best for all our students. As a parent with young children in Kindy myself, I believe that it is really important that we are enthusiastic when talking to our children about next year, focus on the positives and help them to be resilient. Teachers always ensure that everyone has friends in their class and while they may not be with all their mates or be best friends with everyone, our teachers do their best to give year groups opportunity to integrate where possible and spend time with friends in other classes. We are in the very fortunate position of having a school full of students who are kind, caring, enthusiastic, inclusive, friendly, and generally AWESOME! We hope that you and your children are as happy and enthusiastic as our teachers and staff are!
Finally, I just want to make mention of the P&F for their outstanding work in organising the Family Fun Night and Christmas Market last weekend. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed and it was so nice to spend some time with parents, students and staff outside of the busy school day. I say it time and time again, but our community is just the best and I love being a part of it. Huge thanks to everyone involved - it was exactly what everyone needed I think!
Have a great weekend, wishing our final two groups of Confirmation Candidates all the best and we will see you all next week!

POLICY AND COMPLIANCE NOTICES
This week in our compliance section we are reminding everyone of our Student iPad User Agreement. This document is introduced in Year 3 when the students begin to take their iPads home. Please save a copy and go through the document with your children when you have the time. It is a good opportunity to reiterate Cyber Safety messages and talk to your children about how to use the technology properly.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hampers
Christmas for many of us is a time of happiness and celebration as we gather with our family and friends sharing meals, laughing and chatting as we open presents, however, for people experiencing poverty and disadvantage Christmas can be a challenging time. The Vinnies Christmas Appeal encourages the community to rethink their priorities at Christmas time by helping to give joy and hope to those who need it most.
We are seeking your support through the donation of non-perishable food items. This will enable us to provide families and individuals who turn to St Vincent de Paul over this period with Christmas hampers so they too can share in the joy of Christmas.
Suggested items:
- Christmas cakes/puddings/cookies/mince pies
- Chocolates/candies/nuts/ snacks/ nibbles
- Christmas stockings for children
- Soft drinks/juices
- Long life milk/cream
- Long life custards (pouring, not powder)
- Tinned ham/fish/fruit/vegetables
- Jams/honey/pickles
- Bon Bons/crackers
- Baby products
No fresh fruits/vegetables. No meats
All items will be collected in each classroom and donated to St Vincent de Paul on Thursday
10th December.

Primary School Triathlon Championships
On Friday November 6 Holy Rosary sent 14 teams to the Primary School Triathlon Championship at Champion Lakes Regatta Centre in Armadale.
In this event student’s work as part of a team to complete a 200m swim, 6km bike ride and 2km run. The aim of this event is to participate as part of a team and try your hardest while having fun. All out our teams competed finished their events and had a blast doing it. St Marks Anglican College won the event on the day.
Overall Holy Rosary finished 7th out of 17 schools competing on the day which is a fabulous
overall effort.
Special thanks to Mrs Catherall, Mr Thuijs and Mr Edwards for helping out with the program.
Holy Rosary Swimming Carnival 2020
Location: HBF Stadium December 4.
The Year 3 to 6 students will be involved in the Holy Rosary Swimming Carnival on Friday December 4. Students will travel to HBF Stadium in buses, leaving school at 8:50am. The carnival is expected to start at 9:10am in the indoor heated pool.
This week the students have completed their selections for the carnival and I have attached these to the seesaw post I sent home to all students and parents. Can I ask all parents to look carefully at these selections and make any changes this week by emailing the school through the administration email please? I will then write the program and once that is complete, I will not be able to alter selections.
As we were not able to do trials this year the scoring for the carnival will need to be done in a different way. Instead of divisions we will have groups of races in the same stroke and we will score vertically in the champion events. This means if there is four 50m freestyle events, we will look at the times across all four events and rank them accordingly. So our fastest time maybe in race 1 the second fastest may be in race 4 the third fastest maybe in race 2, this will ensure that point allocations are fair across the year group.
I am sending a note home this week with the children to ask for parent helpers. The swimming carnival relies on a lot of helpers on the day to run smoothly. If you can help please fill out the form, can I ask all helpers to please meet me poolside by 9 am on the day.
Permission for this event is assumed and as such the note that was sent home only needs to be returned if parents are able to help out on the day. If for some reason you do not want your child to attend please email the school and inform us as soon as possible.

A big thank you to Year 2 who helped run our P&F Art and Craft tent that kept the kids entertained for hours!
And also to Year 4 who helped with set up and pack down. Having extra hands to do all of these things is vital to the success of our larger events and it is very much appreciated.
