Hour of Code
Half Day students participated in the Hour of Code, a global event created with the purpose of providing an opportunity for people to try coding and learn about the world of computer science. The focus this year was on solving problems with code. During the week, students used code in an effort to prevent forest fires in the Minecraft: Education Edition Hour of Code challenge. Students are encouraged to continue coding with puzzles and activities linked on the Student Resources website. For more pictures of the activity, please visit the school's Facebook page.

Third-Grade Family Breakfast
On Friday, Dec. 20, families are invited to join their third-grader in Half Day's annual pancake breakfast in the school's cafeteria from 9 to 10 a.m.
Parents, please be aware that parking will be extremely limited at school, at the library, and at the nearby retail areas during the third-grade pancake breakfast.
- As a service to our families, we have arrangements with a local business partner (see the parking map) that is offering free parking at 111 Barclay Boulevard, Lincolnshire, slightly southwest of the school (south of Half Day Road and east of Staybridge Suites).
- District 103 is providing a shuttle from 111 Barclay that will run every five to 10 minutes from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. to transport families to Half Day School with return service to the parking lot on Barclay. Shuttle pick up will be outside of the main 111 Barclay building.
- Please also take note on the parking map, which specifically highlights the no parking areas at the Vernon Area Public Library.

Changes to the School Lunch Program
As we hope you are aware, we are switching back to the MySchoolBucks platform where families may purchase meals the same day of consumption using money on their student’s account(s). Please read this news bulletin about the changes.
Some other questions were raised that Quest would like to answer for you now.
- Now that all MySchoolBucks accounts have been activated, the auto replenish feature has been turned on (if you have signed up for it). If you do not wish to add funds now, we suggest you turn off the feature until your MyMealOrder balance has been reduced.
- If you are a new user for MySchoolBucks, the district is listed as Lincolnshire D103.
- Starting the week of Dec. 16, we will be transferring MyMealOrder balances to your MySchoolBucks accounts. Please make sure you order for the remainder of December as soon as possible. If you go into your MyMealOrder account and you do not see any funds, please check your MySchoolBucks account. All money will be transferred prior to Jan. 7, 2020.
- Please find the January menus on the Quest Food Services website.
- To better accommodate our gluten-friendly students, we have created a gluten menu that also appears on the Quest website. We will provide hot gluten-friendly options two to three times each week. We would encourage you to reach out to Mary Janiak at mjaniak@questfms.com if you know your student would like a gluten-free option.
- We will continue to provide cold/à la carte gluten-friendly options daily (for Half Day and Daniel Wright) such as gluten-friendly sandwiches and salads.
- We will now offer individually wrapped gluten-free bread at all three schools to reduce the chance of cross-contact.
As always, please feel free to reach out to Rebecca Cohen at Rebecca.cohen@questfms.com if you have any questions.
