Robotics Competition Tomorrow!

Five Forks has two Robotics teams, the Rebels (6th Grade) and the Terminators (7th Grade), who were selected to compete at the Super Regionals Competition to be held tomorrow, January 16th, at Creekland Middle School. It's sure to be a lot of fun, so come on out and support these teams! GO BRONCOS!!

Big Win for Scholars Bowl!

Congratulations to the Five Forks Scholars Bowl team who competed and WON the PAGE Regional tournament held at North Gwinnett this past Saturday! Our students were all very sharp as we finished the day undefeated with overdue wins against perennial powers North Gwinnett and then Duluth in the finals. Other victories included Weslyan, Carver, South Hall, Chestatee, Youth, and Twin Rivers. We now advance to the State Finals which will be on Saturday, January 23 in Milledgeville, GA. Hearty congratulations to these students: 8th graders - Leo Wang, Jay Patel, Hollis Zeng, and Greg Zhang; 7th graders - Beven Jojo and Febin Joseph. Way to go, Broncos!

Big Win for Wrestling Club!

Congratulations to the FFMS wrestlers who had a great showing this past weekend and won the 14U division of the Brookwood Bronco New Year's Tournament! Here are our results:

Ethan McCoy, Javantae Pena, Ryan Roberts, and Matthew Webb, came in fourth place individually and helped score points for the team.

Tad Logan, Eason Rivas, and Michael Swift scored big, brought home bronze medals, and finished in third place.

Jeffrey Bardales, Myles Bonn, De'Mon Dawson, and Fred Hill brought home silver medals and finished in second place.

Tournament Champions Bryan Cardona Soto, Charles "CJ" Hickmon, and Chandler Mullis won their divisions and brought home individual gold medals.

Way to go, Broncos!!!

Brrr! It's Cold Outside!

With the colder temperatures we would like to remind you to make sure you are dropping off your students no earlier than 8:15 am. The building will not open prior to 8:15 am EXCEPT on Help Session days (Wednesday and Thursday) when we make a special allowance and open the gym at 8:00 am to accommodate the increased volume of students coming to help sessions. We do not release students to help session classes until 8:15 am when teachers are in their rooms ready to accept them.

We appreciate your support in this matter as we want to keep all of our students safe and warm!

Parent Help Needed!

We love for our students to attend our basketball games; however, there has been an increase in students not being picked up immediately after the games--both home and away. We have our students call at the end of the third quarter of the boys game to let you know that pick up will take place shortly. Unfortunately, some students do not make the phone call home. Basketball games usually end by 7:30 pm, and you should plan to be waiting to pick up your child in the designated location (monitored by staff members) no later than that time. With the cold temperatures...we need your help. Students who continue to be picked up late from games may not be allowed to attend additional games without a parent in attendance. Thanks for your support!

Bring One for the Chipper!

Tomorrow is the last day to take your old 'live' tree, without lights and decorations, to a drop-off site. The trees will be 'chipped' into mulch for use on lawns and at schools and parks. The project also saves precious landfill space. You can also volunteer to help with the 'chipping' on January 23rd at Bethesda Park. Click here for drop-off locations and contact information for the folks at Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful.

No Place for Hate Club!

Our No Place for Hate Club is sponsoring "No Name-Calling Week" January 19 - 22, 2016. We want to "Make Name-Calling a Thing of the Past" so we'll have decade days as follows: Wednesday, January 20th - '50s dress up day - "Name Calling Has to Go, Daddy-O!" Friday, January 22nd - '80s dress up day - "As If! Name Calling is Totally Bogus!" There will also be daily announcements, a "Proud to Be" display near the Cafeteria, positive locker notes on Tuesday, January 19th, a display in the Media Center, and much more!

8th Grade Yearbook Ad - Deadline Extended!

Parents, you still have time to submit an "ad" for your 8th grader for the 2015-16 Yearbook! The deadline has been extended until the end of the day on Friday, January 29th! You can spotlight your child, a special friendship, or both. This year, you have the opportunity to design and personalize your own ad and submit more than one photo! An instruction sheet is available on the FFMS website and at Balfour.com. If you'd like us to design your ad, here's the form to submit along with $30.00 (cash only) and one photo. If you'd like to submit a digital photo, please send it to the email listed below. For best results, please make sure the photo is taken or scanned as a digital jpeg format. Photos will be returned. All ads are 1/4 page and cost $30.00. Please email cindy_bloodworth@gwinnett.k12.ga.us with any questions.

Chili Cook-Off & Bonfire - Save the Date!

Please plan to join us for a Chili Cook-Off/Bonfire on Saturday, January 30th from 5:30 - 8:00 pm at the FFMS Field. This event will be hosted by our fabulous Five Forks Fathers and is part of our Relay for Life campaign. Here's a flyer with more details!

Reflections Exhibits!

Reflections winners who advanced to the Council level will have their entries on display at Snellville City Hall beginning February 4th. Please visit the exhibit and support these Five Forks students: Theodora Alese, Rashmika Babwani, Alexandra Barskiy, Emma Fisher, Alicia Lim, Sara Studebaker, Gretchen Taylor, Alexa Thomas, and Madelyn Wolfe.

In addition, Alexandra Barskiy and Madelyn Wolfe have entries advancing to the State level. The State exhibition will be held on March 6th at Atlanta's High Museum of Art. We hope you'll support all of these students and enjoy some fantastic art pieces. Congratulations, Broncos!!

Family Trivia Night!

PLEASE consider joining us for the 3rd annual Family Trivia Night on Tuesday, February 9th! This is the MAIN fundraiser for our Scholars Bowl team. This year our fundraising takes on added importance as we have qualified for a national tournament to be held in Atlanta May 6-8 and must pay the hefty registration fee! We really need your help to reach our fundraising goal. Even if you say "I'm no good at trivia," please just consider playing as a donation to our effort.

Five Forks Family Trivia Night works much like the Team Trivia you may have played at area restaurants. There will be nice prices awarded for the top 3 finishing teams. We will have concessions and "Let's Make a Deal" type games as well. The fun will begin at 6:30 and go until around 8:30. The cost is $5.00 per person or if you have a team of 4-6, you only pay $20.00!

More details to follow, but mark this on your calendar now! Thanks in advance for your support!

Community Book Drive!

We know that many families 'de-clutter' to start off the new year. Please gather up any gently used books (especially children's books) you're finished with or that your child has 'outgrown' and donate them to our Brookwood Cluster Book Drive in association with Cannon Church. There's a collection bin in our main office, so let's all fill it up! Thank you for helping Five Forks spread the joy of reading a good book!

State Survey!

Yes, it's another survey! However, this one is used by the State Department of Education to calculate the School Climate Star Rating. In response to the compelling body of research that underscores the importance of school climate, Georgia is the first state in the nation to include school climate as an early indicator in its academic accountability system, the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). The School Climate Star Rating is a diagnostic tool to determine if a school is on the right path to school improvement. Here's a link to the survey. Parents, you may complete it using your personal computer, smartphone, tablet, or on a computer at school. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. We appreciate your support!

Bidding for Good!

Parents, please support our Brookwood Cluster by participating in the "Bidding For Good" fundraising auction! Funds generated are used to make improvements to our cluster schools and to help purchase valuable equipment and technology to provide rich and engaging lessons for students. Click here for a link to the online auction! We appreciate your support!

Spiritwear on Sale!

Bronco hoodies are now on sale! Here's a link for PTSA Spiritwear that allows parents to purchase spiritwear with a credit card and have it delivered to the school. Thanks for your support of the FFMS PTSA and happy shopping!

We Love Our Five Forks Family!

Each week, we highlight a member of our staff with the "Count Me In" award so that others will get a glimpse of the awesome work going on within the building. We hope you enjoy learning about our fantastic staff!
