Alamosa Park
Weekly Family Letter - January 27, 2023
Thank You for the Great Kindness Challenge
On Monday, January 23 - Friday, January 27, Alamosa Park students celebrated the Great Kindness Challenge. Students became engaged in the Kindness Checklist, Spirit Days, Kindness Rock project, and Student Council Kindness Grams. Students wore their spirit wear all week, decorated kindness rocks, sent thank you notes, completed kind deeds and Student Council sold over 200 Kindness grams to students in grades 3-5. Great job Hawks!
By participating in the Kindness Challenge, we were actively participating in a bullying prevention creating a culture of compassion, inclusion, unity and respect at school and beyond. Collectively, students across the country will complete over 1 billion acts of kindness.
My hope is that Kindness can continue to make a positive difference for everyone, every day.
Thank you to Mrs. Droste for coordinating and organizing the Great Kindness Challenge and Rock Project, as well as our AP Foundation (APEF) and PTA for funding the Kindness Rock Project. APEF and PTA sponsored all the rocks, paint, materials, stickers and the token of kindness for students. We also appreciate the support from many parent volunteers.
Thank you, also, to our Student Council for sponsoring Kindness Spirit Week and Kindness Grams and Mrs. Olsen for working with our Student Council on these events.
Student Recognition Assembly rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 1, 8:05 a.m.
Due to rain expected on Monday, January 30, we are rescheduling the Student Recognition Assembly to Wednesday, February 1, starting at 8:05 a.m.
- The Grade 2 musical performance has also been changed to Wednesday, February 1, which will take place during the assembly.
- During lunch on Wednesday, at Principal Pride Lunch, I will distribute ice cream to every student who is recognized at the assembly.
Thank you for your understanding of the date change due to weather conditions.
Black History Month - February
At Alamosa Park, many of our students will become engaged in learning more about African American history and the accomplishments of African American leaders. Different grade levels will provide students the chance to learned how Civil Rights has shaped our culture by examining the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks; study information about influential African Americans such as Harriet Tubman, Oprah Winfrey, Muhammed Ali, Barack Obama, Amanda Gorman, and Jackie Robinson; and engage in dialogue about African American history as part of our curriculum.
As we celebrate Black History Month, my hope is that we continue to celebrate and learn more about the contributions of African Americans as well as all leaders and influencers, regardless of ethnicity, all year. Thank you for the work of our teachers and our students’ work in learning more about the contributions of African American’s leaders from our past and present who have made and continue to make a positive difference across America.
