In Case You Missed It:
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. I had a sick fur baby that I spent time caring for and also went bridesmaid dress shopping with my daughter Morgan on Saturday. I am definitely taking advantage of this extra day home.
We had an excellent turn out for our APLW last week on Critical Reading. Congratulations to Wendi Wicker and April Woody for receiving their AVID Certification after attending this training! Vincent Pienaar did a fabulous job helping all subjects understand similarities in reading critically in all content areas and ways new ways to help our kids think deeply about their reading. He also took time to show participants how easy it is to find engaging reading articles in AVID Weekly. This month's articles with lessons include science, health, math, social studies, and college and career topics. Make sure to check out and use this valuable resource!
Thank you to Tommy Harrington, Christina Reed, and Camm McNeill for organizing our first ever cheer competition for our athletic conference. It was an awesome way to have our girls show all their growth and spirit this year. We are so lucky to have people like Izzy Taylor and Kim Vaughn willing to help out on a Saturday when needed to make events like this go well!
Anna Whalen has organized a presentation for parents of Lee County on vaping and e-cigarettes to be held on February 6 at 6pm at SanLee. The presenter is from the Health Department and we will have someone translating into Spanish for those that need it. Please get this important information out to your parents.
Our 8th grade Science Checkin went very well on Thursday. I appreciate everyone's flexibility with the schedule and all the assistance from Exploratory Teachers. We were able to get all the test books and answer sheets organized and prepared for this week's testing on Wednesday and Thursday. It's is amazing all that can be done with teamwork and everyone working towards the same goal together!
Speaking of Checkins, Evan Roush came in on Thursday even though he was feeling bad, to make sure we were able to test without a hitch. I heard from him this morning and he was diagnosed on Sunday with pneumonia. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he heals.
Sherell Stevenson's last "official" day of her internship was Friday. You may have noticed that her personal items are still in her office. This is because we have not heard where she is supposed to go or do. I didn't say anything because I was waiting to be able to tell what her next chapter would be, and we still do not know. She is supposed to have a procedure done at the end of the week which will put her out of work for a few weeks. Our hopes are that she will be allowed to finish the year as an intern, but promise to let everyone know once we have an official word.
Don't forget to welcome our newest teammate to the family, Tisha Mahon. If you have a student assigned to Heather Hughes for the second semester, they will actually have Tisha. This will all be switched out in PS this week.
Coming Up:
New Semester Reminders:
- Hand out schedules to all students in homeroom. Ask students to highlight new exploratory class and put in their binders.
- Teachers need to review their Stallion procedure/expectation slide (see email sent by Jo)
- Homeroom teachers must show the bus evacuation video and sign off (see email sent by Jo)
- Call counselors if a student does not have an exploratory assigned to them.
- Put a counselor request in if a student is assigned to a class and has already had the class or has not had H/PE this school year.
