The Compass
Week of February 27, 2023
Navigation Notes
Greetings Westside Families! What a gorgeous weekend we had and I hope you had time to be outside soaking in the sunshine!
If you have yet to complete and return the Parent Intent Form for the 23-24 school year, please do as soon as possible. This information is helpful as we begin planning for next year's needs.
This week is Literacy and Read Across America Week! We have lots of fun activities happening on campus including our Literacy Family Engagement Event on Thursday, March 2nd from 5:00PM to 7:00pm. Please see below for more details.
We are asking parents to review the BPS Wireless Communication Device policy (po5136) and the Cell Phone Contract which are attached to the end of this newsletter. It will also be posted on our school website and social media forums. You can also access po5136 at the BPS link HERE.
If your child has obtained a wireless communication device such as a smartphone since registration in August 2022, you will be asked to complete a Cell Phone Contract for this device. This week, we will be identifying those students who need updated contracts and send them home to you. Please feel free to reach out to our office for a copy as well. As a reminder, Westside Elementary's procedures are that cell phones are to be powered off and in backpacks while on school grounds unless permission has been given by an administrator. Students who violate the WCD policy may receive disciplinary action. Reminder: if a student needs to contact home we will provide access, or if you need to speak to your child, please call the front office and we will connect you.
BPS is launching their annual Parent Input Survey on Monday! We will be sending out the link and would appreciate your time to offer valuable stakeholder input about the district and our school community.
As always, thank you for your support! Our office will be open Monday-Friday from 7:30AM-3:30PM. Please come on in if we can assist you in any way.

Friday is Family Lunch Day!
We had a good turnout for our Parent/Student Lunch Day last Friday! Thank you to the families who joined us and we look forward to seeing more of you this Friday.
At this time, we must follow the parameters listed below per BPS guidelines:
- This opportunity will only be available on Fridays.
- Only adults on the approved pick-up list for a child will be allowed to have lunch with students. You will need to present your photo ID at the front office and receive a visitor's tag. When done, you must sign out before leaving campus.
- A designated area will be provided for the adult and student.
- Adults will only be allowed to eat lunch with THEIR child and we request only two adults per child please.
- Adults who are not registered volunteers will be monitored by school staff at all times.
- Adults will be permitted to be on campus for lunch for their child's 30-minute lunch block (times listed at end of newsletter for all classes). Once your child's lunch is over, we kindly as you to sign out and exit campus. If you have multiple children and want to have lunch with all of them, you must wait for additional lunch times in the front office, glass booth, or your vehicle.
