Civano Family Meetings....
We'll be hosting a series of small group meetings via Zoom on the dates and times below. These meetings will reflect some information shared in the District Town Hall meetings; however we will focus on our school and our families. These are small group meetings and we will be able to talk and engage in conversation.
Tuesday, July 21 - 5pm
Wednesday, July 22 - 12:00pm
Wednesday, July 22 -- 6pm
Thursday, July 23 -- 11:00am
Thursday, July 23 -- 4:00pm
If you are new to Civano, these meetings are a wonderful opportunity to meet us! Our returning families have many questions, too, and we love that you are signing up! Please email School Coordinator Lydia Crain @ crainl@vailschooldistrict.org to request a time to join. The meeting invite and password will be shared with you once confirmed.
School Starts August 10!
ALL STUDENTS will participate in remote learning on Aug 10 until we can begin in-person instruction
A recommended daily schedule for each classroom will be sent out prior to the start of classes.
Students are encouraged to attend class with their teachers remotely each day for instruction in math, ELA, social studies, and science.
Students will be able to engage with their teachers through email or via online conferencing during their scheduled class period and/or office hours.
For students unable to join their class, the day’s direct instructional materials will be uploaded to Schoology.
Class periods will include 30 minutes (maximum) of direct instruction and 30 minutes of time to complete assignments.
If remote instruction continues beyond the week of August 10th, we will phase in specialist classes.
Elements of Remote Instruction
The structure of instruction will parallel typical in-person instruction with bell work, direct instruction, independent practice, checks for understanding, and student feedback as the primary framework components.
Lessons will focus on mastery learning of grade-level standards.
Student work will be turned in and feedback will be provided.
Student feedback will be given regularly throughout the week.
Some work will be completed or submitted digitally, some may need to be printed (such as a worksheets or other graphic organizers); some may simply be written on blank paper.
Teachers will work with families to determine your printing needs.
Student progress will be measured through student participation, work completed, quizzes, etc.
Remote instruction time and expectations will vary by grade level. Teachers will clearly communicate these expectations when school begins.
Computer Check Out
Upper School (Grades 6-8):
All 6-8 Civano students will be provided a Chromebook this year.*
In order for students to be able to take their device home, families need to do the following:
Read and accept the Responsible Use Policy online.
Read and accept/decline the Self-Insurance Policy online.
Sign up for a time to check out a Chromebook at RVMS (Please indicate in the Sign-Up Notes that your student is a Civano 6-8 Student).
Civano Middle School Families are able to schedule their Chromebook check-out on the following days/times at RVMS (10770 E. Bilby Rd):
July 27 & 29-30, 2020: 8:30am - 4pm.
July 28, 2020: 11am - 7pm.
*If you do not arrange to pick up a device at RVMS, we will assume your child does not need a device and we will make it available to another family. NO personal Chromebooks can be used on campus when in-person instruction resumes.
Lower School (Olders, Middlers, Youngers)
As we prepare for remote learning starting August 10th, we need your input. Please complete the device survey for lower school (grades K-5) families by Friday, July 24. Due to the limited number of devices we have on hand, we need to gather information regarding device needs. If you have multiple children at CIVANO, please list your oldest child as the student who may need a device. At first, we will prioritize one device per family in need. In the event that more devices are available, we will continue to distribute additional devices. Devices will be available for check out the week of August 3, times and dates to be determined. Schoology functions best on a Chromebook or better device. It can be frustrating to navigate on a tablet, iPad, or smart phone.
All students are required to complete a Responsible Use Agreement (RUP) to be able to use technology. Families that check out devices from Civano are responsible for the repair or replacement costs of all breakages and damage to the device(s).
*Please note, we are only loaning devices for the Lower School during remote learning. When schools are permitted to resume in-person school, all devices will need to be returned to school.
