Social Studies
Art
Pre-kindergarten students are exploring what happens when white is added to a color. They use finger paints to mix white with a color (orange, red, blue, green and purple) and learn that these lighter colors are called pastels. Additional, they will discover what happens to colors when black is added. Following our color studies, we will be celebrating spring. Students will oobserve and draw daffodils, tree branches exploding with new buds, and fresh spring leaves. Explore with your child how many different types of flowers you can find growing this month.
Pre-Kindergarten students are currently exploring what happens when white is added to a color. Students are making lighter colors, or pastels colors, using finger paints. are have been celebrating spring in art classes. They painted daffodils after exploring the parts of these bright, cheery flowers. Making collages has supported our young artists' cutting and gluing skills.
Science
Pre-Kindergarten students have been working so hard on their weavings and they have become experts on how a sheep’s wool gets made into yarn! We especially enjoyed getting to see and pet a real sheep! We are going to continue our unit on fabric by Reading Harry the Dirty Dog and getting a piece of fabric dirty with soil, mustard and ketchup. We will hand wash the fabric and see what materials left a stain and which ones washed out.
It may seem far away, but our students are also getting ready for the Farmers’ Market this spring. We have planted potatoes and onions in the garden beds as well as tomatillos and hot peppers in our hydroponic tower.

Woodworking
Students have been learning the proper way to use many different tools. So far they have used tape measures, screwdrivers, wrenches, sanding blocks and hammers. Currently, they are building and constructing different structures using numerous different materials. Students are challenging themselves to make creations that can stand independently. We are also supporting their classroom study of comparative vocabulary by experimenting with measurement using tape measures. Students are exploring “Busy Boards” leaning how open, lock and unlock numerous different styles of latches from a standard gate latch to a carabiner.
