Oratia District School Newsletter
Week 8 - 15 September 2022
Message from Ms Linda
Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai ki te whānau o te Orātia. Zdravo. Talofa lava. Ni hao. Kia orana. Namaste.
Greetings Orātia whānau.
Congratulations to Annabelle Nicholson for taking her speech on rubbish to the Auckland Zone Speech Finals last week. Annabelle spoke passionately and represented herself well before her peers, and was an excellent ambassador for Orātia School. We are very proud of her courage and passionate delivery of her thinking. Well done Annabelle.
Last week we had Kendra, from the Ministry of Education, visit our school and take time to interview teachers and students and leaders about our school values and the way PB4L is outworked in our kura. She was delighted with the strong response from all she talked to and could attest to our knowledge and understanding of our school values, the lessons we teach each week, and our expectations for the way we interact with each other here at school. We were very happy to hear her report and have set some goals for ourselves for the future so that we keep improving and strengthening our practice. My thanks to Staci Hamlin and Kath Goldsmith for their leadership in this area.
As part of our PB4L programme the students can exchange their Orātia apple cards for experiences offered by staff. On Friday a big group of children came to the Tech Room with their vouchers and were treated to ice cream sundaes with me, and waffles with Mrs Goldsmith. They enjoyed the food, but also sitting and chatting with the adults and their friends. You might like to ask your children about the apples and what they exchange them for?
We have very good news with the safe arrival of baby Will Moncur last week, weighing in at 4.46kg(9lb14oz). Congratulations to our DP Matt on his new son, and our best wishes to him and his wife Chelsea, as they settle into life with an expanded family.
Kath Goldsmith and I are away later this week at the NZ Principal's Federation(NZPF) conference in Christchurch. We are looking forward to hearing from some excellent keynote speakers and having the chance to network with our colleagues after so many interrupted years due to the pandemic. Our senior staff will be leading the school in our absence taking turns in the school office.
With the lifting of the Covid protection framework on Monday midnight, mask wearing mandates are no longer applicable in schools. Please look for the email I sent to all families on Monday explaining what that may look like in our kura as we ease out of this time towards the warmth of summer.
Kia kaha, kia atawhai.
Ngā mihi nui, Ms Linda
