From Mr. Lucita
Another week is in the books and what a week it was. As the students settled into a regular schedule, we were able to begin our weekly masterclasses where the students are preparing for their All Region, Area and State auditions coming up in November. It’s never too early to start preparing for this process. We were also able to test the newly adjusted schedule in starting after school rehearsal 15 minutes later. What a great decision; amazing what 15 minutes can do!
JAGUAR BAND SEMI-TRAILER: As we look ahead to this week there are many things happening. Our Johnson HS Band Semi-Trailer that will carry our instruments is tentatively scheduled to arrive this Thursday evening. Once we have confirmation, we will send information for a possible arrival party and trailer tour if time permits. We can’t wait to see it pulling into the campus for the first time!
FOOTBALL GAME: This week also presents our first away football game. The band will be traveling to Pflugerville for the Hendrickson HS football game. A detailed schedule concerning departure times, stadium address and return times will be emailed from Mrs. Mendez early this week. However, you may start preparing clothing items for the game. Color Guard will wear black shorts, the grey “Founding Member” tee shirt and tennis shoes (awaiting the arrival of Game-Time guard uniforms). The winds and percussion will wear the black polo (tucked in), khaki shorts (with a belt), black band shoes and black cap. For this first football game, the band will present a music standstill performance for halftime. This means that we are saving our marching premier for our home game against Hutto the following week. This gives us the opportunity to have the first time the Jaguar Band marches the 2019-2020 show “Our Journey” to be in our stadium for our parents! Students will get to perform before an awesome home crowd, creating memories for our students and families that will last a lifetime!
WHITE PRACTICE SHIRTS NEEDED: There was communication that requested the students bring their white dri-fit Jaguar Band practice shirt to the rehearsal on Saturday. Many students were able to do that which allows for some of our awesome boosters and parents to adhere the students marching number to the front of the shirt. If you did not bring your white dri-fit Jaguar Band practice shirt in this weekend please bring it on Monday. Also, if you will bring an additional plain white t-shirt, those same wonderful parents will adhere the students marching number to the front of that one as well. This gives each student two shirts with their number where the staff can see it clearly. This will make a significant improvement in identification and communication during marching rehearsals. Please make sure the student’s name is written inside the shirt.
We want to tell everyone how proud we are of the students and their efforts during Saturday’s rehearsal. Although the sun hid behind the clouds for the majority of the day it was still very humid and hot. The students maintained a high level of focus and energy for the entire duration of the rehearsal. Kudos to them for working so hard, we are very proud of them!
Last but certainly not least!!! We would like to thank the parents that have been giving so much to our program. There have been parents helping with uniforms, meals, props and even helping build shelves in the band hall and for the front ensemble. Your efforts are so appreciated and are a major key to our success!! So from the entire Jaguar Band Staff “thank you, thank you, thank you”!!

First annual Jaguar Jog 5K/10K!
Our inaugural Jaguar Jog 5K/ 10K is Saturday, September 21st.
This will be the start of a Johnson High tradition to be carried on for years to come!!
We need volunteers to help us make this first Jaguar Jog a success!!
Whether you have a current Jaguar Band member or a future Jag band member, please consider giving a few hours of your time to help!
This is a great opportunity for students to earn volunteer service hours as well!

This plan offers 2 meals each competition day (lunch and dinner) and is highly recommended by Mr. Lucita. Please know that it is quite common for schedules to change on competition days; making it very difficult to get food to your student at the right times on those days.
