Greetings Lancer Families,

As we move into November and the colder months, I have reflected on the start of the school year and all we have accomplished so far. My hope is that this update highlights some of what we've been able to do together this school year. Similarly, I can't help but to feel excited about all we have left to achieve. With such talented and hardworking students, dedicated teachers, and committed families and community members, the possibilities are endless.

November is a month dedicated to being thankful, and I can't express just how thankful I am to have been afforded the opportunity to work in such a fantastic school. Please consider scheduling conferences with your child's teachers. Whether your child is performing well or experiencing some struggles in class, meeting with the teacher to get on the same page is always a good idea! Conferences can be structured around what is going well and what teachers should continue doing, or ways in which all stakeholders could work together to help students improve.

Conferences will be held on Monday and Tuesday November 21st and 22nd from 12:00-2:45, and should last around 15 minutes each. (Students will have half days of instruction, and will be dismissed at 11am on these days.) You can pick up your child's report card during your scheduled conference.

To schedule a conference, please reach out to your child's teachers.

*Winter Sports Begin November 14th. Family ID Sports Registration for Winter Sports is now open. *Mandatory Parent/Athlete Winter Sports Meeting: Thursday, November 17th at 7:00pm in the Auditorium. If your child plans to participate in athletics this winter, please attend this meeting.

Our "Big" Lancers are such tremendous role models for our "Little" Lancers. One of the most powerful aspects of our district is that students of all ages can interact with and learn from one another. On October 29th, our JSHS students had the opportunity to participate in a Trunk-or-Treat Event for our elementary students. Our students decorated their trunks and handed candy out to the elementary students who paraded along the route. There were smiles, lots of laughter, and fun interactions between students of all ages! It was wonderful to see all of our students enjoying the day together -- after all, we are #OneElba.

Way To Go, Lancers!!

If you are the parent of a student in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade, your child will have the opportunity to attend a trip to Washington D.C. this school year. We are opening the opportunity to multiple grade levels who did not get the chance to go due to COVID restrictions. Please be on the lookout for information and meetings regarding this trip. Once we get a grasp on available dates and prices, we will move quickly on fundraising opportunities for students.

Wednesday-Friday 11/23-25: Thanksgiving Recess. No School

Our Elba FFA members travelled to Indiana for the National FFA Dairy Evaluation and Management Contest in October. They walked away with a National Silver in Dairy Management and Evaluation! Ian and Bing also received Gold Individual Awards, and Amelia and Jillian received Silver Individual Awards. The dedication and passion these students show is evident, and their hard work is paying off. To say we are proud of them is an understatement! Fantastic job, Lancers!

On Thursday 11/10, Elba Central will celebrate all the special Veterans in our lives. If you would like to come in so that we are able to recognize you during our ceremony and assembly, please return the attached form to Mrs. Pedro (ppedro@elbacsd.org) as soon as possible.

*Many seniors took advantage of the SUNY's apply for free promotion which was held October 26th-November 6th. This is a great opportunity for students to apply to as many as 5 campuses.

*Seniors and parents, make sure you are completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you haven't already done so. The application opened on October 1st. (https://studentaid.gov/). GCC is offering guidance through virtual presentations if needed:
