Weekly Update
November 3rd
Ninety-One School
Dear Ninety-One Community,
Today we held our second house assembly. During our assembly, we had our leadership class organize two games where students got to earn house points. We also talked a lot about being kind and acknowledging our emotions using a short video created and organized by our technology specialist and counselor.
Also, please don't forget that Sunday, Daylight Savings time ends, which means we will turn our clocks back one hour.
Look below for information about how to sign up for December events and Oregon Battle of the Books.
Best Wishes,
Andy Pauls
PTO December Events
The Ninety- One PTO is excited to partner with the community to bring December Events again this year. December Events has been a valued tradition and PTO event at Ninety-One School for many years. Students and families have the opportunity to either receive support and/or to be directly involved in supporting other Ninety-One families. Boxes are filled with food, socks, underwear, and gifts provided from these events. This is our opportunity to come together as a community and support our own Ninety-One families. More information will be found in Friday Folders in November. If you have any questions please contact our school at 503-263-7110.
Families in need of support this year...please fill out this December Events Form. All responses need to be received by Nov. 9.

CARE Award Nominations
Each month, Canby School District and the Canby Kiwanis Club will highlight a different school in our district and will recognize a staff member from that school with the CARE Award. Ninety-One School will be highlighted during the month of December. So, if you know of a Ninety-One staff member who has made a difference in your life, the life of a child you know, or in the community, please consider nominating them for the CARE Award.
Leadership News
Ahoy Mateys! This week in leadership the dance committee has been working on nailing down the details for the winter dance, like games (musical chairs, raffles, bingo, etc) with prizes, and refreshments. They have also been setting up a playlist for the dance full of amazing songs! The dance is in need of chaperones, and leadership is asking parents/guardians, who are willing, to volunteer. Along with that, leadership has been figuring out ideal times for the dance to take place. As the dance draws closer more updates and details will come.
This week we had an altar for Dia de Los Muertos displayed from Monday to Thursday. During this time period students were able to bring photos of deceased loved ones to display on the altar. This was all thanks to Ms. Luz and the students from the leadership committee, who were responsible for putting something together for Dia de Los Muertos. Last week on the 27th was picture day, and on the 26th a band concert was held for the beginning and advanced band.
Those same days, 5th graders went on a field trip to Port Blakely, after which we were able to interview both the students and teachers. We interviewed Araiya and Striker from Ms.Scott's class When asked about the field trip Araiya told us she enjoyed hugging trees and looking at the coyote bones that the group came across. She also enjoyed eating the honeycrisp apples that they were given. Stryker said that he enjoyed when someone stepped in animal scat and when he ate the honey crisp apples. For Ms. Stenehjem’s class, we interviewed Abby and Mark. When asked about her experience and what she learned, Abby told us she learned about renewable sources like how trees turn CO2 into oxygen. She told us her favorite part was experiencing seeing all the nature around her during the hike. Mark told us about playing games to help answer questions and eating the apples. He stated that his favorite part was eating lunch.
This was all for this week's newsletter. Thank you to everyone who reads it.

Oregon Battle of the Books is Back!
The Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a statewide reading competition for children in grades 3-12. The program is sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries. Students read from this year’s book list for their grade level, and then discuss the titles in teams. Each team prepares to answer trivia questions about the books. Teams compete against other teams of students in a tournament-style “battle” of knowledge about the books. Students who win battles at their school can advance to district, regional, and state-level competitions.
Our goal at 91 is to make this first year back exciting and fun for everyone. Students will be allowed to choose their teams from other students in their grade, or we will help them find other team members. Each team will need a coach, so we will also need lots of parent volunteers! We will send sign-up forms and more information in Friday Folders in the next couple of weeks, or your student will be able to grab a form in the upper library.
All the books from both the 3-5 and 6-8 divisions will be available in the upper library, and we encourage any interested students to start reading as soon as possible!
Attached is additional information that will be sent home in Friday folders next week or you can visit the OBOB website:https://www.oregonbattleofthebooks.org/
