Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
I want to give a huge shout-out to our School Governance Council this week for assisting me with planning, preparing, and approving our school budget expenditures for the next fiscal year. We had a very small time frame to complete this task and we accomplished it!
We are now entering the month of March and are gearing up for state testing in April. March is always the month where we are making sure we have exposed our children to all of the standards they need to be successful on the Georgia Milestones. Crabapple Crossing does not in any way conduct skill, drill test prep. We do review older concepts taught at the beginning of the school year as a refresher and we continue good strong instruction daily. I encourage all parents of students in Grades 3-5 to come out to Sweet Apple next Wednesday night at 6:00 pm to learn more about the assessment from local assistant principals and curriculum support teachers. This night will also give you insight as to how you can prepare at home. See details below and please join us!
Finally, I want to mention that CCES will be losing five staff members to retirement this year. They are:
Wanza Malcolm-Café Manager
Melanie Kulamer-Instructional Support Teacher
Anne Bopp-Speech Language Pathologist
Dorothy Loyd-Special Education Teacher
Rene Rauda-Head Custodian
In addition to retirements, we will also be losing some staff due to personal reasons such as relocation and family issues that require them to work closer to home. I anticipate this being 3-5 classroom teachers at this point. I always want to be clear and transparent in this communication because rumors spread quickly and here you get the information straight from the source. I say every year that teaching is hard and fewer college students are pursuing education as their major. This makes the field of qualified candidates somewhat small. I have been interviewing since January and have found there are some great people out there. We look forward to building upon the greatness we have already established here at CCES with your support.
It was so wonderful to see the sunshine this week! I hope there is more on the horizon this month. Enjoy your weekend and we look forward to seeing families at the dance this evening.
Student Showcase Night Coming March 14th!
We are looking forward to our upcoming Student Showcase night on Thursday, March 14th from 5-6 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to showcase all of the exciting things they are learning in Math and ELA. This is a combination of last year’s Literacy and Math nights. We hope you will join us for an hour of fun!

georgia Milestones testing 4/15/19 - 5/14/19
The Georgia Milestones testing window will open on April 15th, 2019. Georgia Milestones will measure how well students have mastered content and skills outlined in the state-adopted standards in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The results are used for evaluation, decision-making, and instructional improvement. On March 7th, the district will conduct a system technology check where students will participate in a practice test. Students in 3rd and 5th grade will be taking the Georgia Milestones on the same dates and times in April. Students in 4th grade will take the test the first week of May. In addition to the longer testing window, students will only take one section of each content area per day except for Social Studies and Science in 5th grade. Although there are makeup testing days scheduled at the end of each grade levels completion, if time permits during the testing window, rolling makeups will take place in the afternoon. Below are the dates and times:

To ensure that your child has an opportunity to perform at his or her best, you can help by ensuring your child is present and on time each morning. If possible, avoid scheduling doctor/dentist appointments during the testing period. As a reminder, guests, volunteers or parents will not be allowed in the building during the entire testing window. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Haltrecht our testing coordinator.
