FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents
Our school focused our efforts during the Lenten season on doing things for others and praying for them, especially those less fortunate than ourselves. Each family was provided a project Compassion box and many of the children have given up their own pocket money to give to those in need. Our Year Six Spiritual ministry also sold raffle tickets at lunch time to raise money for Project Compassion. Lucky prize winners received an Easter basket full of goodies to share with their families.
During Lent our children also thoughtfully prepared and upheld their Lenten promises some of which included helping out more at home, giving someone a hug and smile, inviting a new friend to play, giving up playing on the X Box. Giving up lollies and chocolate was also a popular Lenten promise!
The children discussed New Life in their classes and our Pre-primary classes hatched eggs and butterflies as part of this theme. They were so excited when the butterflies popped out of their cocoons and delighted in the little fluffy chicks when they arrived. The children understand that eggs are a sign of new life and that we share Easter eggs with our friends and family as this is the time when we celebrate Jesus' resurrection.
The Stations of the Cross is a Lenten devotion that offers witness to Jesus’ Passion and Death. This year during Holy Week our children participated in the Stations of the Cross, ably led by our Year Six students. Our junior year levels had a modified version to suit their age group and our middle to upper classes had a more detailed journey of what Jesus encountered during this very special week.
Please see the Parish section of the newsletter for Holy Week and Easter mass times.
May the renewal of life at Easter bring new blessings of love, hope, peace, good health and happiness to you and your loved ones.
This year as part of our Evangelisation Plan and Catholic Identity we are focusing on the re-establishment and promotion of Mercy values across the school community. To achieve this goal we will:
Design and display banners outlining the Mercy values and promote these throughout the school community via newsletters and assemblies.
Give out special Mercy awards at the end of each semester.
Continue to link the school’s established Reach Out with Love Project to a Mercy cause.
Promote and educate about the work of the Mercy sisters.
Date for your diary – May 16 PCPS Family Mass at our lady of the Missions church. Details to follow.
The teachers have been holding parent meetings with all families at the end of this term and all parents have been encouraged to make a time to meet so that they can discuss their child’s great achievements that have taken place thus far this term and areas for improvement. The new online booking system was received very well by parents with many positive comments.
Parental engagement recognises the important role that parents play in developing positive attitudes towards learning and education for their children, building their motivation and confidence as learners and fostering their enjoyment of learning. As such we wish to continue nurturing and strengthening our relationships with our parents at PCPS and ensure we are adhering to COVID regulations.
As of next term teachers may invite a few more parents into the classroom and even more who can assist outside under the veranda or outside in another part of the school e.g. listening to reading, making resources, helping small groups of children etc. If there are groups of parents helping outside, the school will be fine with the 2sqm regulation however please remember the 1.5 distancing regulation.
We will be welcoming parents back to share in our class liturgies and masses next term (following the 2sqm metre regulation and social distancing). Please check the online calendar for dates of your child’s liturgy.
Assemblies will be continuing as we did this term with all parents invited to the Merit Assemblies if their child is receiving an award and all parents welcome to the Performance and Prayer Assemblies with COVID regulations being adhered to.
This year for Harmony Day, the classes had their own activities within the classroom integrated into their learning programmes to celebrate our uniqueness and the different cultures within our school community.
The school faction swimming carnival for all children from Yr 3-6 was held recently at Joondalup HBF Arena. Thank you to Mr John Hignett for all his hard work in preparing for the carnival and for all his organization. It is very much appreciated. The children had a fantastic day, and it was well attended by Yr 6 parents (restricted COVID attendance). Thank you to all staff and parents who assisted before, during and after the carnival. It was wonderful to see everyone working as a team. The Interschool swimming carnival was held last Friday and PCPS came 2nd and won the Equality shield! Super effort! The Breakers Swim Club has been very well attended by PCPS students during the term. It was great to see all our swimmers enjoying breakfast at school this morning.
