Tech Tips with Tibbs
August 2015-Welcome Back!
Mrs. Tibbs-Technology Coach
Here is my schedule for the upcoming school year:
EAG-M,W,TH,F
HHS-T
This year I will be using BookMe to set up meetings with you for your technology needs. If you need me to meet with you about a program or help with something that will require me sitting down with you please use the Book Me to set up an appointment. (This does not need to be used for things that need to be fixed in your room that is what the work order process below is for.)
Where do I Start?
Teachers,
As you set up your classroom computers, please be sure to do the following.
Plug in and connect everything -- including printer, Interwrite board, Elmo, ladibug, etc. - (or whatever you have)
Make sure you plug in the white network cable from the back of the computer to the wall.
Test the projector to make sure it is showing your computer PLUG in the blue projector cable in to the wall prior to turning on your computer. (If the image does not show on the screen then the projector may need to be cloned-Send in a work order if this needs to be done)
Test out the speakers/audio to make sure these are working
Help out your neighbors/team members (especially new teachers) that may not be familiar with all of these items.
Do not block the network drops on the walls with bookshelves, desks, cabinets, etc. We have to be able to access these at all times.
WORK ORDERS
If you have something that is NOT working, email a work order to eagwo@rcschools.net or hhswo@rcschools.net with the specific details:
(RCS Tag #, Room #, description).
As always at the beginning of the year, there are a lot of things that need to be fixed and set up. We will be working through the issues by priority. The first goal is to make sure all the offices, cafeteria, teacher equipment, and computer labs are up and running. You can submit work orders for student computers, but they will not be a high priority at this time.
Thank you for your patience.

TNReady Resources
With TNReady in full effect this year, I wanted to provide you with some resources that you will be able to use in your classroom. Some of these will help with assessments and some are to help with infusing more technology into your every day instruction. The students are going to need to be on the computers on a regular basis in order to prepare them for the TNReady Assessment.

MICA Time
There are some state provided resources to prepare your students for TNReady. The students will take the practice tests provided for a Benchmark on the MIST platform which will only be open during certain windows of time. Mica will house the items samplers for teachers and students to practice the technology type questions that the students will have to answer on the state assessment. Teachers can create their own assessments in Mica with the sample items the state has provided. Teacher cannot create their own questions. Mica will provided some much needed practice with these types of items.
(If you are not able to login to Mica please contact me or your testing coordinator)
Edulastic
Since teachers are limited to a certain number of questions with Mica, we have ventured out to find other resources for teachers to create their own assessments. Edulastic provides teachers will the ability to create 28 different question types to assess their students. This site is free and great for common formative assessments or just extra practice.
TN Standards App
View the Tennessee State Core Standards in one convenient FREE app! A great reference for teachers, parents, and students to easily read and understand the standards. Quickly find and search standards by subject, grade level, and key word.

Reminders...
- Parent/Student checklists are due as soon as possible. Until then students are NOT to use the computers until I have confirmed that they are allowed to have network access. I have placed folders for the checklists with instructions in your box and I will email it out as well. Please remember these are HIGH priority because it also has screening, textbook, and other information on it as well.
- Please follow correct work order procedures. Click here for instructions
- IMPORTANT- As the school year starts please remember that NO technology is to be moved out of a room. If it is something that is not working please let me know and we will take it to be surplussed.
- Equipment that was turned into Sara at the end of the year is in the server room closet. It is very full in there right now and I will let you know when you can come get your equipment. I have to move some things out of there before you can come get it. Please do not take anything that does not belong to the room your are currently in. New building rooms already have technology in them.
FYI-Work Order Priority Per Central Office Directive:
- Office, Cafeteria, and Attendance
- Teacher Computers
- CTE Student and Lab Computers
- Projectors
- Printers
- Student Computers
- Office, Cafeteria, and Attendance
- Setting up classes and students in network programs - Please do not attempt to enter your own classes and students into any network program. This needs to be done by one person for uniformity in usernames and passwords. I will be importing students into programs like mobymax, NEW Lexia Core5, and fasttmath. Central office will take care of Compass. Let me know if you have any questions about this process.
- As student logins are created, I will be releasing student login information by grade level. Once you receive the email confirming your students have access to EAG Technology, you will navigate to Teacher Apps on your school computer desktop to a folder labeled "Student Login Information". Please do NOT let your students on the computer until you have received an email confirmation from me.
