From Mr. Clemente
Congratulations to the "Sound of the Wildcats" Marching Band on a successful two weeks of marching band camp! Even with threatening weather in the area, the students put on a great first performance of the year at D-Lot on Thursday evening. It was great to have such a wonderful audience with us as well! Thank you to all the families, alumni, and community members for being in attendance and creating a great audience for our students' performance.
This week kicks off our first week of the 2019-2020 school year, and with that comes our regular schedule of classes during the school day and marching band rehearsals Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school. Below is what a typical class day looks like, and what a typical week with marching band rehearsals looks like:
School Day Rehearsal Schedule: (all on main campus)
- Period 2: Symphonic Band
- Period 3: Jazz Ensemble II
- Period 4: Jazz Ensemble I
- Period 5: Freshman Jazz Band
- Period 6: Wind Symphony and Color Guard
- Period 7: Concert Band
Regular After-School Marching Band Rehearsals:
- Tuesdays 2:45 PM - 5:00 PM
- Wednesdays 1:45 PM - 5:00 PM
Please take time this week to again look over the Band calendar for the entire school year and compare it with your family's calendar. If you see any potential conflicts, please get in contact as soon as you are able. As I stated in my email earlier in the week, communication is key! Mr. Smith and myself are always available to answer questions via email at Michael.Clemente@ocps.net and Daniel.Smith2@ocps.net. If you ever need an answer to a question that cannot be found on either the Band website or on Charms, please email BOTH of us, as that will cut down significantly on response time.
We're looking forward to the first day of school, and looking ahead to a great year!

BAND BOOSTER PRESIDENT MESSAGE
Thank you so much to all who came to the preview show and the booster meeting before the show. Everyone can contribute, and we so appreciate all of the volunteer help. Please see the Charms calendar (the “hand” icon) for volunteer opportunities. Help is needed this week for uniform ironing, pizza before the game on Friday, and operations and chaperone help for the game. Remember, your Additions approval must be up to date. You can find a like to the Additions application on the main page of the Band website.
If you do not know what volunteer chaperones and operations volunteers actually do each week for the games, please see the information below.
Chaperones-arrive approximately 5pm depending on the game (itinerary will specify), meet with other chaperones/coordinator, decide game duties and which bus to ride, ensure attendance is taken by section leaders, assist students with instruments, uniforms, and anything else needed, arrive at game, walk to stands with band, help with feathers for shakos (uniform hats), rope off band area in stands (home games), watch band warm up/get ready for pregame show, supervise students during game/3rd quarter break, make sure students have enough water, help students clean up stands, walk with students back to the bus, ride on the bus back to school, generally back to school by 10:30 pm. Chaperones have fun!
Operations volunteers-arrive between 4:10-4:30 or so (OPS communication will specify) and coordinate student operations crew loading equipment, water, and other items into the trailer (i.e. percussion equipment, etc.), drive to game in vehicles, meet the trailer and coordinate unloading equipment, water, and other supplies needed for game, assist students transporting equipment to field and stands, ride back to school and coordinate students unloading trailer after the game, ensure trailer is unloaded and ready for the next event, assist with other items needed, generally finished by 10:30-11. The OPS crew has fun!
Have a great week back to school everyone.
