Dear AOC Families,

Tomorrow, 8/22, our students begin their COC classes. This last week, they received tours of the COC campus and in Freshman Seminar, they were shown the locker rooms and where their CAWT classes are located. Freshman also participated in our ROOTED event facilitated by our Senior students in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) class taught by our Wellness Liaison, Mr. Jason Wilhelm. It was an outstanding event!

For COC classes, there are no mandates for mask wearing at COC and there is no vaccine requirement at this time.

As a reminder for attendance, please make sure that you check your student out of school with our front office. The office will send an exit slip to their class after the parent has authorized the student's dismissal. We appreciate your cooperation. This is to ensure that we can account for all students.

COC Classes begin Monday, August 22! Make sure to attend your first class or you will be dropped.

If you are currently required to quarantine due to COVID-19, please make sure to email your COC Professor so that they do not drop you from your class. Use your COC email address and include your name, COC ID and which exact course/section you are enrolled in (example: MEA-125-34855).

If you are enrolled in an online live course (OLCLV) and need a quiet space to take the course we have reserved UCEN 309 and UCEN 311 for you to login to your class. Please make sure to bring a laptop or tablet as we do not have computers available. The COC Cafeteria's Zoom section is also available, if you prefer.

Senior "Grijalva Appointments" have started. All seniors have booked an appointment. The 11th grade appointment link will be posted early next week.

AOC Spirit Wear: Thank you to those members of the AOC who purchased spirit wear. Spirit wear sales serve as a small fundraiser for AOC ASB. As was mentioned in a recent email, Spirit wear will be delivered to AOC on Friday, September 9th. We will distribute it as quickly as possible once it arrives. Additionally, we wanted to let those of you who ordered senior T-shirts know that those will be distributed at the Senior Sunrise event on the morning of Friday, September 23rd. Any shirts not picked up at Senior Sunrise will be distributed as soon as possible after the event.

AOC School-Wide Dance on 9/2-All students are invited and it's FREE! It will be held on Friday, September 2nd from 6 to 9 PM at Rancho Pico Junior High. Students must bring their student ID with them.

Does your student have a late COC class that ends after 7:00pm in the dark? They can contact the COC Escort service to help them be safely taken to their vehicle.

Campus Safety on the Valencia campus and here are the updated hours of operation: Mon - Thurs 5-10pm

Here is the school free lunch menu for your review. Please note that you can sign up for several days but you must click into the form and select the specific date(s). A new form must be submitted for each date. We do not oversee the form entries. It is a district-wide initiative.

At Coffee with the Principal, Dr. Fine spoke about school-wide safety at AOC. Please see the attached powerpoint for different safety web applications, emergency drill dates and teams that we have in place to address safety measures.

Thank you to all of our parents who joined us for "Coffee with the Principal" and thank you ROOTS for providing the coffee and treats. We were also able to observe our Freshman during their ROOTED event. Thank you for taking the time to be with us.

AOC Back-to School Night will be held on August 30th from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Our ROOTS PTA will also have a table outside between sessions.

We look forward to having you join us for this special evening. You will learn all about AOC's grade level specific academic program. To accommodate all of our families, Back to School Night will be located in the University Center (U-Cen). The University Center and is located right next door to Academy of the Canyons. More details to be sent out this week.

Located on the campus of College of the Canyons, AOC is proud to be the middle college high school in the William S. Hart Union High School District serving students 9th-12th grades in the Santa Clarita Valley. Students have the opportunity to earn between 24 and 44 transferable college units, prior to receiving their high school diplomas. Upon graduation, the majority of Academy students pursue their post high school education by continuing at COC and completing their college transfer requirements in only one year after high school. Other AOC students go directly into a four-year university, bringing their community college units with them and placing themselves well into their freshman and sophomore years at the college level. While attending AOC as a high school student, community college tuition is waived for established California residents.
