A Message from the Middle School
Dr. Patrick Ketch
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
MacKinnon Middle School students are currently in the process of writing their science research papers. The ILA teachers worked diligently, during the first marking period, to properly instruct students on how to research and write their papers. Students will be conducting their science research papers for the duration of the second marking period and concluding their social studies research papers during the third marking period with a living time line. The research papers will replace the quarterly assessment in that subject for the marking period they are working on their research.
Writing is a process. The purpose of the research paper is to improve our students writing skills as well as to better prepare them for high school and college. Our aim is to create active citizens that consciously interact with the world around them and become a contributing member of society. We want our students to be able to think for themselves, engage in discovering global issues, and to develop educated positions on such. Our aspiration is for students to leave our school to understand that they have a voice in society.
