CHS Cougar News
September 6, 2020
From the Principal's Office
Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic first week...we are off to a great start! Our Ready, Set, Go! Conferences were a hit with over 80% participation from families. Our PBIS Committee did a fabulous job in planning activities so that our students were able to quickly learn and practice new processes and procedures for the 2020-2021 school year. And, our students, as suspected, rose to the occasion by adjusting to new norms quickly and without complaint. I could not be happier with how our first week went. Thank you, Cougars!
This week will be another busy one for us. Our students in grades 9-11 will take the Pre-ACT test. Seniors will report to school on their scheduled cohort days and times as normal, and participate in other activities while the rest of the student body is testing. In addition to the Pre-ACT test, Lifetouch Photography will also be coming in to take student photos, from 8:30 to 12:30 pm on Tuesday, Spet. 8th (Cougar Cohort/Clinton Connect) and Thursday, September 10th (Pride Cohort/Clinton Connect). Please read on for details regarding specifics.
Looking forward to another great week - it's so great to be back!
Mrs. Franz

Dr. Brewer's Message
9-4-20
Dear CCSD Families,
I would like to start off by thanking you for all of your support and cooperation in helping Clinton Community School District start the 2020-2021 school year. Albeit, the start of the year had a different vibe than in years past, it warms our hearts to have students back in our buildings and we thank you for entrusting in us. We could not have gotten off to a great start without your help. Children are extremely resilient and I could not be more proud of how quickly they adapted to the alterations put in place in each building to help protect the safety and wellbeing of everyone. We at the schools cannot thank you enough for preparing your children for these changes and encourage you to continue to stress the importance of following the new procedures and requirements put in place.
As a reminder, please keep your student at home if they are ill. It is important for individuals to stay home when they are not feeling well. If you have any questions on whether your student should come to school, the best decision would be to keep them home, and contact your healthcare provider to discuss your concerns.
It is also important for students or staff who are presenting symptoms to be tested. Our Rock County Health Department guidance on returning to school after illness is our baseline decision-making guidance for when students or staff will be allowed to return. Families may wish to make their own copy of this document, in order to assure your understanding of the decision-making process. An additional consideration for families is whether or not siblings may need to remain home, due to the potential for illness at home. In cases where a sibling is ill, we recommend all siblings remain home, as they may be asymptomatic.
Included with this email are two documents the school district will utilize if and when a student or an employee at your child’s school has tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. Although we must protect the privacy of the person involved, the health and safety of our staff and students is a top priority. You will only receive one of these letters if your child has been in close contact with an individual who has tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19.
As mentioned in previous communications, be prepared to switch from one educational model to the next at any given time per the Reopening Guide. Unless the State or county orders us to transition to full virtual immediately, we will ensure that a few days of lead time are given to help our families prepare for the shift in educational delivery. It is also possible that only individual classrooms or school buildings might temporarily transition to full virtual. CCSD will be working collaboratively with the Rock County Health Department to make these determinations.
Finally, due to a change made by the USDA, breakfast and lunch will be free for all CCSD students beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2020 until December 31, 2020*. That means that all of the students in the building can have a free breakfast in the morning and a free lunch each day without using their pin numbers. A la carte items will still be available for a charge. Virtual students and students whose cohort is not in the building will be able to pick up free breakfasts and lunches each week. The meal pick up details are below:
Beginning Wednesday, September 9th
Pride Cohort will pick up every Monday at 11 am at the High School
Cougar Cohort will pick up every Wednesday at 11 am at the High School
*The USDA has approved free meals for all students until December 31, 2020 or until funding runs out.
I want to once again take the time to express my most sincere debt of gratitude to each of you for the incredible patience and understanding you have demonstrated over these past few months. Thank you for being in partnership with the Clinton Community School District and remember to practice good personal health habits, proper social distancing, and other recommended local, state, and federal guidelines. Take care and Go Cougars!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Brewer, District Administrator
Athletics Update from Mr. Gamble
Hello Clinton Community School District Families,
We hope everyone had a great first week back to school!
It was fantastic to see students back in the building engaged in their learning. We thought it was a good first week as new freshmen were able to get settled in and upperclassmen were able to get back into the building after a long six months away from CHS.
BIG NEWS- Clinton High School athletics is getting a big upgrade in the coming months and we are excited to share with you that a HUDL Focus camera will be getting installed in a gym near you! This piece of equipment has so many applications, but one of the biggest features is that it will allow us to stream live events. In the event that spectators are limited in the future due to COVID, this will give you the opportunity to watch events from the comfort of your home. We are so excited to have this technology to ensure that everyone can stay connected to Clinton athletics and events! We cannot thank the Clinton Booster Club enough for their support!
Also worth noting is that Strength and Conditioning has restarted at CHS. Sign up with Coach Standiford if you are interested!
Mark your calendars- Friday, September 11th 4:30- 7:00pm- The Clinton Booster Club will be hosting a brat sale down at the football field. $7 will include one brat or two hot dogs, baked beans, chips, dessert bar, and a bottle of water.
Thank you again to the Clinton Booster Club for their continued support of Clinton Athletics!
Lastly, we are hoping to bring some more options to students after school in the coming weeks. Students please be checking your email as we are going to be looking for your feedback!

*Also, as a reminder, due to safety reasons, we will not have microwaves available in the Commons for student use until further notice.
Courtyard Cleanup
The CHS Courtyard is a beautiful area behind the high school that needs some TLC so it can be better maintained in the future and utilized more often by students and staff! We need your help to get there!
On Saturday, September 19th we will meet by the CHS Greenhouse/Ag. Shop at 8am. Please bring work gloves! Most of what we will be doing during this work time is cleaning out weeds and excessive wildflowers. The Clinton FFA will provide lunch for those that help. If you are interested in taking home any seeds from the many wildflowers (black eyed susans, cone flowers, etc.) envelopes will be provided! Students can earn community service hours for their help at this event! Proper COVID safety precautions will be in place including social distancing and mask wearing when necessary.
Please let Kelsey Kueter or Maureen Howe know if you can help so we can plan accordingly for supplies and food! Thank you!
There is a Facebook event created on the Clinton FFA page if you could help us out by sharing this event!
