Changes to COVID-19 Mitagations

In case you missed it in last Friday’s District Newsletter, the Board of Education accepted recommended changes to our COVID-19 procedures and protocols last Wednesday. Please review the Friday District Newsletter so you understand how we are operating moving forward. This plan comes with changes to our masking protocols so there will be periods of recommended masking and required masking in our buildings that are reflected on the weekly dashboard. These decisions will be made based on the Friday dashboard and if there is a change at the school for the following week, families will receive an email from FPS Communications explaining the change.

Early Dismissal Procedure

We have a new process for any student who will be leaving school early. After the parent/guardian completes the online attendance form, the student will receive an email. This email serves as their early dismissal pass. The student should show their email to their teacher in order to come down to the office at the appropriate time.

Hey, Hey, Hey... check out the students who have been showing Saber Pride this week!

Early College Credit and Start College Now Programs

Any junior or senior students who may be interested in participating in the Early College Credit Program over the summer should complete and submit an application to Student Services on or before the DPI deadline of February 1st.

Students interested in participating in the Early College Credit Program or the Start College Now Program for the fall of 2022, be sure to submit your application by March 1st.

Requested courses through these programs must not be equivalent to a course offered at FHS.

Please make an appointment with your assigned School Counselor if you need additional information.

ACT Exam: March 8th

All Juniors will be taking the ACT exam on March 8th, 2022. The state required ACT exam provides an excellent opportunity for all Juniors to demonstrate their college and career ready skills, as this exam is reportable to colleges. It is our school goal, that upon graduation, all Franklin High School students are prepared for their post-secondary goals. In addition to daily learning through their classes, students also have access to an online program, Method Test Prep, to help them to prepare for this exam.

Method Test Prep, available through Xello, allows students to engage in subject specific practice. In addition, the program will highlight areas of strength and allow for dedicated practice toward growth areas. The program provides standard specific practice and instructional videos. Method Test Prep also allows each student to engage in two full practice exams. In addition to engaging in ACT preparation through Method Test Prep, all students can engage in full ACT practice exams by simply using their chromebook. By opening the “apps” tab, students can access the TestNav software and will find ACT practice exams available for their use.

Please feel free to reach out with any and all questions. We are available and eager to assist students in their preparation for this measure.

Youth Mental Health Training

As part of a School-Based Mental Health Grant we received as a district, we are excited to offer another opportunity to train parents and community members in Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA). During the YMHFA course, participants develop an understanding of the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents, the importance of early intervention, and how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. Participants will engage in a 2-hour self-paced course followed by a 4.5 hour in-person session with a district trainer on Thursday, February 24th from 4:30-9:00 PM. If you do not have access to needed technology for the online self-paced portion, arrangements can be made to provide you with a device and/or internet access. The deadline to register is Monday, January 31st. Please complete this survey to indicate your interest in participating. There are limited spots and an email will be sent to finalize your enrollment in the course and next steps.
