A Short Sweet History: Bubble Tea

The popular drink, known as bubble tea or boba, can be found and enjoyed almost everywhere today. But where did the drink originate?
There is not one direct origin of bubble tea, but the drink was thought to have started in the 80’s in Taiwan by two different creators. Two rivaling tea houses argue over who was the first creator of the now-famous drink. Taipei Times, a Taiwan Newsletter, explains the quarrel.
Lin Hsiu-hui claimed that she had made the drink one day. At her father’s tea house, Chun Shui Tang located in Taichung, she combined her favorite childhood snack, tapioca balls, with iced tea. However, Tu Tsung-ho, the owner of Hanlin Tea Room located in Tainan, argues that he created the first drink a year earlier. Tsung-ho claimed that he caught his eyes on white tapioca balls as he was walking through Tainan’s Yamuliao market, and had the idea to add them to milk tea.
Bubble tea started becoming popular in the early 90’s in countries across East Asia. With the help of social media, drinking bubble tea has become a world wide trend.
Bubble tea is also popular at Vista Oaks! In a recent poll, 81.5 percent of students said that they loved bubble tea, while only 18.5 percent said they disliked bubble tea. The most popular flavors among students are brown sugar milk tea and a variety of flavors, such as mango and strawberry.

On Thanksgiving Day, 4,000 calories, on average, are eaten per person through delicious Thanksgiving meals. A great way to run off those excess calories would be to join in an event full of fun that will take place at the Streets of Brentwood on Thursday, November 24th, starting at 8:00 am.
This event is called the 9th Annual Brentwood Turkey Trot For Schools, and participants can walk or run a distance of 5k. The proceeds of this event benefit the Brentwood Union School District and the Liberty Union High School District.

STAFF WRITER
Hi! My pronouns are she/they, and you?
No matter who you are, how old you may be, or what your life is like, it’s always important to respect people’s pronouns.
A pronoun, as defined by the Oxford Dictionary, is a word that “can function by itself as a noun phrase and that refers either to the participants in the discourse (e.ga., I, you ) or to someone or something mentioned elsewhere in the discourse (e.g., she, it, this ).” Thus being said, pronouns are very important in day-to-day life.
Everyone has pronouns, it’s how people refer to you! However, sometimes people’s pronouns are new to you or you might have a hard time learning new pronouns. This guide will give you tips and tricks to respect and use people’s pronouns correctly!

Book review: "People We Meet On Vacation"
By Julianna Rivera
STAFF WRITER
The book, “People We Meet On Vacation” by Emily Henry is a young adult fiction read. This captivating and well-written book is definitely one of my top 5 favorite books. I loved how it lured you in just from the first sentence and took you on a roller coaster of emotions and feelings. How it made you see the perspective of the female lead, Poppy Wright, and how she handled each situation she was put into or got herself into.
