Teams At Loma Heights
GREEN TEAM
What is the Green Team program? It is a leadership program, where 5th grade students will help with recycling, cleaning up the school and community projects. They will be doing these projects 1-3 times per week, as deemed appropriate by mental health and admin staff. They will also attend leadership meetings every Friday with a mental health staff to learn and gain evidence-based leadership skills and interventions.
EXTREME TEAM
What is the Extreme Team program? It is a peer mentorship program run by the school’s mental health team to include the Counselor, Tera Uhl, Social Worker, Karrie Killgore, 5th grade students, along with any interns associated with the mental health team. It is designed to encourage positive self-worth, build relationships with each other as well as develop leadership skills that will carry on with them throughout their school career. We use evidenced based interventions to support social emotional learning in the classrooms.
What does it mean to be a mentor? The mentors will be paired with a younger student who has struggled with academics, behaviors or social emotional responses in class. The mentor will go to the younger child’s class 1-3 times per week to assist in individualized interventions the mental health team deems appropriate for that chosen child. The mentors will also have mentorship meetings every Friday with a mental health staff in order to collaborate ideas and strategies with each other.
Welcome to the Twister Family!
Patrick Jimenez, Assistant Principal
My name is Patrick Jimenez and I am happy to announce that I will be working with your children as the new Assistant Principal at Loma Heights elementary. I taught Special Education for many years working with a wide range of students. More recently, I worked with children in a Structured Communication Classroom. Karen Flores, Social Work Intern
Hello, my name is Karen Flores. I am a New Mexico State University graduate student. I have a bachelor's degree in Social Work and I'm currently working on my master's degree in Social Work as well. I enjoy the warm, sunny weather of New Mexico. I like to go on hikes on the Organ Mountains and to eat ice cream from Caliches. Social Work has always been a profession that interests me the most. As I can work with a diverse population by assisting them with the help they need and providing the emotional, mental, and physical support people need today.
Sarahi Hernandez, Social Work Intern
I am a senior at NMSU receiving my bachelors and a Social Work Intern here at Loma Heights. In my free time I like to spend time with my family, go fishing, and shopping! Super happy to be here and excited to get to know all the kiddos and staff!
