South Grove Intermediate School

News and Notes for November

From Mrs. Reid

It's hard to believe November is here. This is the month when we take time to reflect and appreciate all the blessings in our lives.

Parent Teacher Conferences - Thank you for attending your child's parent teacher conference. I am pleased that so many of you took the time to discuss your child's progress and goals for this school year. Please stay in touch with your child's teacher and use Parent Connect to keep up with grades and assignments.

Generosity and Giving - Thank you to all our volunteers who come in and support teacher needs. We are lucky to have parents who enjoy coming in to copy assignments, cut out laminated items, scoop ice-cream, and attend field trips. We appreciate your involvement. Thank you for sending in canned goods and donations for fundraisers for charities that ask for our support. During the month of December we will help Servants Heart and I am always amazed at how generous our South Grove families are in supporting those less fortunate.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." - John F. Kennedy

Snickering at South Grove!

South Grove's Snickering at South Grove was a HUGE success! 400+ students and their families attended a fun-filled evening with oodles of academic learning stations, an opportunity to make a puppet with special guests from Adzooks Puppets, a Book Walk, raffle baskets, and snickerdoodles! Students were also given a new Accelerated Reader book and math flash cards. The halls of South Grove were overflowing with smiles!

Fall Intercession - Wrestling News from Coach Irwin

The Beech Grove Wrestling coaches recently held an intersession camp to help prepare students, ages K-5, for the upcoming youth season that starts in January. Students learned a variety of athletic agilities and wrestling techniques during the five-day camp. At the completion of the camp, Mr. Irwin and Mr. Harris we were really impressed with what the kids were able to do. Many of the kids were able to hit hard agilities and execute basic wrestling techniques that included buddy flips, double legs, and snap-downs, which is very impressive for athletes that age. All of the kids had a great time and the wrestling coaches are looking forward to a tremendous season! Information regarding the youth season will be distributed to the all Beech Grove students in December before winter break.

Box Tops for Education

The South Grove Intermediate Box Top Contest was a huge success! Please continue to save your Box Tops. We will be having two more contests this year. Also, keep in mind that we accept Campbells Soup labels and pop tabs. Thank you for your participation.

Girls on the Run

The Girls on the Run group has been enjoying the beautiful fall weather and running outdoors. They are training for the Jingle Bell 5K to support the Arthritis Foundation. This event is being held on Sunday, December 15th at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. You Go Girls!

Fred & Stuart

South Grove is lucky to have Fred Shonk, a retired Beech Grove bus driver, and his dog Stuart visit and listen to children read. This is a special opportunity provided to our children. Stuart loves to listen to children share stories!
