High Lakes News

December 2015

Note from our Principal

Hard to believe that December is already here and we will be celebrating the holidays very soon. As is our annual tradition, the PTA sponsored Giving Tree will be up in the lobby until December 10th. If you would like, stop by and take a tag off the tree to support families who are less fortunate. Please bring the gift back unwrapped and place under the tree. We will make sure that the gifts get distributed to the appropriate families. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it does make a difference for many children!

As we found out over Thanksgiving Break, winter is here! The transportation department has faced many challenges all this week, and are doing a great job under very difficult conditions. The first Monday we came back from break was particularly challenging and many students who were taking the bus home got home in excess of an hour late. In the future, the school district will send out an emergency alert message via BLS Connect if there are large transportation issues so that parents know what to expect. Please go to the website below to sign up for those emergency text alert messages.

Also, if the temperature is below 18 degrees, we will keep the kids inside until it warms up. Please make sure kids come to school dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. To find out if there are any school delays or closures, please do one of the following:

  1. Sign up for BLSConnect, an emergency alert text messaging system. Register at http://connect.bend.k12.or.us
  2. Call our hotline, which will be updated with weather delay or closure information: English 541-323-SNOW (541-323-7669); Spanish 541-355-0044.
  3. Check our website www.bend.k12.or.us
  4. Like Bend-La Pine Schools on Facebook: www.facebook.com/BendLaPineSchools
  5. Follow us on Twitter @BLPSchools
  6. Tune in to local media.

From the High Lakes staff to all of our families, we wish you a wonderful season of hope and joy!

Warmly,

Susan Heberlein

Principal
