The Bear Necessities

Guest Reader, something to consider

I've been giving a lot of thought lately to how much parent involvement we have here at school. I literally do not know if you could find anyone who believes "Parents are their child's first teacher" more than me.....yet, I lead a school where we literally lock the world out. I know it is all in the name of safety, and we know that is also important....but let's get real....we need to figure out how to partner with parents behind locked doors. One easy idea is to consider parents as "Guest Readers" could shoot for one a month or one a week. You could invite families to sign themselves up or other close family members or friends. Some will not read your newsletter or sign up to read, but some will. You could make this a job in your classroom, "Guest greeter", you could celebrate this person (take picture to put on a memory wall). As a school family, you should consider having "extended family" come for a visit and really showing them the love while they are here. Just my thoughts....rambling as ever!!

No need for volunteer training, they are just visiting and reading with two of our staff members in the room, just need to bring an ID with them.

Think I'm nuts.....see the article below for the benefits of parent involvement at school...just saying!!
