Jade May joins the Mary Frances Early College of Education
The Mary Frances Early College of Education is excited to welcome Jade May to our Office of Undergraduate Advising!
Jade May is an Academic Advisor for Kinesiology department in the College of Education. In this position, she advises students within the Exercise and Sport Science Program.
Prior to joining the College of Education, Jade served as the Graduate Assistant of the Peer Mentor Program within the Center for Student Engagement at Florida International University and interned with the Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity at Auburn University. She bases her practice on the framework of equipping students with the tools to become effective leaders and to inspire, empower, and influence positive change.
In her free time, Jade enjoys creating music, watching reality TV, and spending time with her husband, Tyler, and their dog, Yankee!
The Exploratory Center Welcomes Audrey Grigg to the Explore Team
The Exploratory Center would like to welcome Audrey Grigg to the UGA advising community. She joined the Explore team in the EC in May. Audrey comes to the Exploratory Center with experience in the mental health field and student services, including a Masters of Social Work degree from UGA and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Dalton State College. Prior to joining the EC, she worked for the Division of Academic Enhancement with higher education professionals while assisting students with mental health needs. We are happy to have her on board. Welcome, Audrey!
CED announces new BLA Coordinator
Prof. Ron Sawhill, PLA, ASLA, is the new BLA Coordinator replacing Prof. Brad Davis who now directs the MLA program in the CED. Ron will not be advising BLA students directly but will run the undergraduate Internship Program targeted at 3rd years and oversees the annual CED Scholarship Awards process. He has been teaching studios, engineering and lighting courses at UGA since 1995. Ron is a proud UGA alum and may be reached at <sawhill@uga.edu>.

"The Sherpa Spirit of Kestrina Shrestha"
The Summer 2020 issue of uga graduate (the University of Georgia Graduate School Magazine) features a story about Kestrina Shrestha and what's in her invisible backpack. Kestrina is a new advisor in the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences Math Department. She graduated this past May with a Masters Degree in College Student Affairs Administration. Previously, she worked with multicultural services and programs as a graduate assistant within the College of Student Affairs Administration. In addition to the feature story AND gracing the cover of the Summer 2020 issue, Kestrina was selected as a speaker for the TEDxUGA Student Idea Showcase (SIS) in November of 2019.

Remote Learning Circles
What is a learning circle?
A learning circle is a group of people who are committed to learning and growing together. The goal of a learning circle is to create open dialogue and reflection around concepts, issues, etc., with a focus on a shared outcomes. A remote learning circle engages a group in this type of learning remotely.
What is involved?
Remote learning circles do not require substantial time to facilitate, nor do they require expert-level knowledge.They can be structured to meet the learning and engagement needs of your team. Meet anywhere from 30 minutes up to 2 hours. Feel free to be creative and make it your own.
How do I get started?
Bring your team or group of colleagues together to discuss a TED talk, article, podcast, book, article, class, or relevant workplace topic.

Advisor Connections-Coffee Hour and Happy Hour
During this time of Zoom meetings, alternate working schedules, and social distancing, many people have found themselves craving interactions that are more social in nature with those in our advising community as evidenced by your responses to our recent advisor survey. In response to this, Julia and Ashley wanted to present some totally optional, drop-in opportunities for advisors to “gather” in a casual and social manner—no agenda and no need to talk about work (unless you want to 😊).

Explore Information Session
The Explore Information Session offers students the opportunity to connect remotely with an Explore Advisor to examine 130 majors, 95 minors, and 43 certificate programs offered across campus. Engage in meaningful discussion with an Explore Advisor to learn more about program options and begin the major exploration process! Hosted by the UGA Exploratory Center, student can login to the information session at the following link:
