Twin Peaks Middle School
Weekly RAM Newsletter
A Brief Note from Dr. Burke
Dear Ram families,
Happy Mother's Day to all the Twin Peaks moms. I hope you had a wonderful day. I am fairly certain if I were to ask any mother what their most treasured blessing in life is, the answer would be the same...their children. In fact, I am fairly confident that is the answer most parents and guardians would give. And so, in order to ensure the safety of all our children, I ask that you please exercise care when driving around our school. I understand that we all have busy lives and traffic is a mess, especially at dismissal, but as adults, some of us are becoming a little lax when it comes to safety, especially in front of the school on Tierra Bonita. It is extremely dangerous and against the law to stop in the middle of the street and encourage children to walk into traffic to get into your car to avoid waiting in line. Please consider picking them up later or on the other side of Twin Peaks if you don't want to have to hassle with the traffic. The last thing any of us want is for any child to be injured.
On behalf of our entire staff, I also want to thank all of you who contributed to our Staff Appreciation Luncheon last week. Whether it was donating food or helping to coordinate, thank you for making us feel so special.
I also want to call your attention to a couple walks Team Twin Peaks is scheduled to participate in this weekend. The first one is the Best Buddies Friendship Walk which takes place on Saturday and is completely free. Details are listed below and you can click here to register. And, the ADL Walk Against Hate takes place on Sunday. We only have nine people signed up for our Twin Peaks team and I know we can do better! All the details are listed below and you can click here to register! Please use NPFH2019 to ensure your student can participate for free. We hope to see you there.
Finally, a reminder that the Math portion of our CAASPP testing begins this week. The kids did a great job with the Language Arts portion. Please encourage them to do the same for Math. We appreciate your support.
That's it for now. We look forward to seeing all our students tomorrow, and remember, it's a 1/3/5 day.
Sincerely,
Dr. Burke

ADL Walk Against Hate
This year, Twin Peaks has partnered with the Anti-Defamation League in San Diego to work towards becoming a school where hate is not tolerated. The No Place For Hate committee has held a school-wide signing of the Resolution of Respect and have also facilitated two classrooms activities for their peers: Slurs and Offensive Jokes, and How to Address Them and Addressing Culture and Identity.
In San Diego, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) are celebrating their 2nd annual Walk Against Hate which brings the entire community together to promote diversity. Thousands of students, parents, business leaders and community members will walk with one another to highlight the values of respect and inclusion. We would love to show our RAM P.R.I.D.E. by joining other San Diego schools and the ADL on their Walk Against Hate.

Noya Dahan Shining Light Scholarship Fund
Chelsea’s Light Foundation announces the Noya Dahan Shining Light Scholarship fund to help ensure a shining future for the brave eight-year-old who was one of the congregants wounded during the shooting at the Chabad of Poway in California on April 27, 2019. Noya, along with her two sisters and their uncle, were attending services at the Chabad of Poway to celebrate the final day of Passover, when an anti-semitic zealot entered the sanctuary, shot and killed one congregant, and injured three others including Noya. She received injuries from shrapnel that hit her face and leg and was hospitalized for her injuries but has since been released.
CLF is seeking donations to the fund to help ensure Noya fulfills her bright future. “We want Noya to know that she is an important member of our community, that we support her and her courage, and want to make sure her future shines bright,” said Andrew Skale, Board President of CLF and Poway resident. Donations can be made at https://chelseaslight.org/. Everything raised will be placed in a scholarship fund for Noya’s college education.
For almost a decade, Chelsea’s Light Foundation has been providing scholarships to help students, having donated more than $650,000 in scholarship funds to bright and resilient children all across the county.
For more information, please contact Heather Skale at 858-883-2987 or hskale@yahoo.
