VBS 2020 - Week 3 - Zacchaeus
Our Lighthouse
Our Lighthouse
Our VBS theme: Our Lighthouse is a reminder to all of us that in these uncertain times and in times where we feel tossed about by the waves in our lives, that God is there for us to show the way through the darkness. Our theme was inspired by the song My Lighthouse by Rend Collective. We would encourage you to play this song to start each day throughout our summer VBS! Talk with you child(ren) about the song and what it has to do with our theme for the week (and don't worry, our theme for next year: Shipwrecked means we will be hearing plenty of this song next summer too!)
This week, the video below is of some of our FLY (Faith Lutheran Youth), youth advisors and our Youth Minister recorded themselves singing along to the song and performing the motions. That video is embedded below. A special thank you to Davey Young for producing the video and to our FLY program for their continued support of our VBS program, even when we aren't able to meet together.
Our third story is about Zacchaeus and how Jesus shows us to love everyone regardless of what they've done and regardless to how other people treat them and how God will never stop loving us no matter what we've done!
This Week''s Lesson includes Bible reading(s), a 3 lesson videos, a craft, online games, an "offline game", a song of the day, and a coloring page. Scroll down to find each part of the lesson.
The Story of Zacchaeus
Read Luke 19:1-10 in the Hands on Bible
If you are not one of our Sunday School families and do not have a Bible from us, you can find the NLT translation online and use the same text as the Hands on Bible.
Then, watch the video below.
Song of the Week #1
After watching the video (and we encourage you play this video regularly each day) discuss how the song matches up with the story from today.

Zaccheaus Gimkit Game
Click on the link below to play a multiple choice Gimkit game. Your children may already be familiar with Gimkit if they have used it at school or Sunday School, but after you answer a question correctly, you will have the option to continue or visit the shop. If you visit the shop, you can "purchase" items that will allow you to earn more "money" per question, or bonus "money" when you have a correct answer streak, etc. There are 8 questions with this game, so the game will definitely repeat itself. We would encourage you to play around with different "purchases" and see how quickly you can increase your point value. If you have any questions about how to play, do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Also, if our aggressive use of quotes above didn't indicate it, there is not any real money involved and the purchases aren't actual purchases. It's just a fun way to engage the children.
We have different levels for the game based on the age of your child and so you and your family can experiment with different "purchases" and game play.

Song of the Week #2
There might be times where we ask "How Can It Be?". It doesn't make sense to us. We feel as though we don't deserve it. But that's what is so amazing about grace! Jesus gave His life to give me (and you) ours! In those moments where we feel that we don't deserve God's love we need to think about Our Lighthouse and fix our eyes on Jesus. God's love is unconditional and is given to each of us. We can't do anything to earn it, we don't deserve it, we cannot lose it. How can it be? Because that's who God is and that's how much God loves each and every one of us!
