HTMS Family, I would like to formally introduce you to our new assistant principal, Evening Krauel! I am so excited to have her on board and joining our family and journey to new heights. Please welcome her!

Below is a message from Mrs. Krauel:

Greetings HTMS Family,

It is with great honor and excitement that I join Principal Louis Mair and the Harriet Tubman MS family as one of your new Assistant Principals! I am a career-long educator leader that has rooted my work in educational and racial equity, and antiracism. I have transformed learning climates to close the achievement gap through the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support lens and intervention programs to support student learning needs. Raised in Oregon, I completed my graduate work in Special Education at the University of Oregon and pursued my leadership endorsement at Portland State University. This school year will mark my 6th year with PPS and 18th year in education. I have a 12-year tenure at the middle school level in both Eugene SD 4j, and David Douglas SD, including Title I schools. In PPS, I worked at Madison HS, Jefferson HS, and Alameda Elementary. I am so thrilled to be back in the dynamic community of middle school!

I live in NE Portland with my dear husband, wonderful son, and our goofy English bulldog. I also have three step kids, who we cheer on in adulthood and one as a junior in high school. My son is in the 6th grade and will begin his middle school years in PPS. Beyond being one of my greatest teachers, my son keeps me very connected to the realities of distance learning and the challenges that can surface! For fun, our family enjoys both beach and mountain adventures. We also love to play a match of tennis or pickleball, and you might see us on a run in the neighborhood!

On a philosophical note, the milestones I have overcome in my life are as a result of the positive mentors that I have had along my journey. My work is influenced by this same spirit. When others see agency in you that you may not yet see in yourself, it is a gift. It is with this spirit that I am fueled with each day as an educator and as your Assistant Principal. I am deeply passionate about building capacity in others; both children and adults. I believe in our collaborative approach as a community and tackling tough problems together. I also love to celebrate any and all the successes that we can! Through our commitment to a shared vision we will nurture Harriet Tubman MS to be a school that is supportive of all students, families, and staff in the pursuit of social and academic greatness! As Principal Mair has said, "get ready to build a world-class school!"

It is with great anticipation that I begin this amazing and important work with the wonderful community of Harriet Tubman. I look forward to getting to know each other and to be on this journey together!

Also, I want to thank the following staff for assisting with the distribution: Ms. Boldman, Ms. Drew, Ms. Loewen, Ms. Holmes, Mr. Pan, and Ms. Krauel.

If you need a Chromebook and/or a Hotspot, please call the school at 503-916-5630. We will conduct Phase II of Chromebook distribution next week, Thursday, August 27th, and Friday, August 28th, from 10 am - 2 pm on both days.

Student schedules are not available at this time as they are in the process of modifications. You will receive a notification when they are ready to be viewed.

Today, the district sent an e-mail communication/information of the beginning of the year soft start schedule. If you did not view it yet, here is the link to the pdf, https://www.pps.net/cms/lib/OR01913224/Centricity/Domain/4/Soft_Start_Schedules_for_Families.pdf

Hello, Legends! This is Ms. Boldman, the Library Media Specialist at Harriet Tubman sharing with you some quick library updates for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. As we begin our school year remotely, there WILL be the option for students to place holds for books using the Tubman Library online catalog. Students will then pick up their library holds at school on designated dates. More details will be coming soon!

Welcome back, Legends! We are so excited to have two school counselors at HTMS this year: Ms. Drew and Ms. Katie (joining us from da Vinci Arts Middle School). We realize that starting virtually may not be what we were all hoping for. Just know that we are here to support you, and we will get through this together (and have some fun!). In the coming weeks, we will provide more specifics around how the Counseling Department will be working with students and families. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to either (or both) of us. We are here to support you! Our contact info is below.
