Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
October 28th, 2022
We had another wonderful week of learning, collaboration, and joy at Lutherville Lab! We have some exciting events on the horizon with our primary costume parade on Monday (more information below, if we must cancel due to inclement weather we will send a call on Monday), our Turkey Trot and Readathon launch next week, and American Education Week on the horizon!
American Education Week is Nov 14th - 19th. This year, we are excited to be able to open our building for visitation at select times for each grade level. If you would like to visit, please mark your calendar! So as to limit overcrowding and interruption to regular instructional programming, we are asking visitors to stick to the assigned time for the grade level. Thank you for your understanding. There will be a pre-registration process shared as we near the week. If this time does not work for your schedule, you may arrange with the teacher -- in advance -- for an alternate visit.
Kindergarten: Tuesday November 15th from 9:05 - 11:30
1st Grade: Friday November 18th from 9:05 - 11:30
2nd Grade: Wednesday November 16th from 9:05 - 11:30
3rd Grade: Thursday November 17th from 1:30 - 4:00
4th Grade: Thursday November 17th from 9:05 -- 11:50
5th Grade: Monday November 14th from 9:05 -- 10:50
Our Annual Readathon Fundraiser is almost here! The Read-A-Thon is a vital fundraiser for the PTA to support school initiatives and hold events for our community. Your child's Reader Pages are able to be set up if you haven't already done so for this year. We are asking that you please consider joining us, your child(ren) will have a blast while we are able to raise funds for our PTA so we can continue to support our students, staff and school well, in the coming year. More info will be sent home with students next week.

Fall Celebrations
Students will have the opportunity to participate in a Fall Celebration on Monday, October 31st. Celebrations may vary by grade level and more communication may be forthcoming from your classroom teacher, but some important information and reminders follow.
Costumes-
Students in K-2 may bring a costume to school on Monday, October 31st, if they wish so that they may put it on at the appropriate time. Students in grades 3-5 may bring or wear a costume, if they wish.
Costumes are not to include any pretend weapons or masks that would limit their vision as these pose a threat to their safety. Students should be able to put on their costume with little to no assistance. Please be mindful that if you send your 3-5 grader in a costume for the seven-hour school day, it may not come home in the same condition it left. The choice, is yours.
Parade-
A primary parade, a long-held Lutherville tradition, will be held at 3 pm. Students in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade will parade on the school grounds. Families are invited to watch the parade from Franke Avenue. Franke Avenue is located behind our school. We are asking that all family members stand behind the fence on Franke Avenue at all times. In order to make this parade possible, we kindly ask for your cooperation as you stay behind the fence.
Participation-
If you do not want your child to participate in the costume parade or another planned classroom fall celebration activity, please let your child’s teacher know so that an alternative activity can be planned.
“Gym-NEWS-ium” PE News and Notes from Mr. Bruns
Turkey Trot
Our Turkey Trot will be November 2, 2022 (rain date November 3), The event is a one-mile fun run on school grounds for 3rd-5th graders. We are requesting that all participants donate a minimum of 2 non-perishable food items. These items will be taken to a local food pantry in November.
After the run, the participants will receive refreshments and medals will be awarded to the top three boys and girls of each grade level. All participants will then have a chance to win a turkey and other various prizes.
This is an excellent opportunity to have fun with your friends, get exercise and help those less fortunate!
Sneakers
Please remember to wear sneakers every day to school. We want everyone to be safe during PE class and on the playground at recess. If your child is wearing another type of shoe due to inclement weather, please help them remember to pack their sneakers. Thank You!
PLAY60
Our PLAY60 program is reaching the hallway point. Keep moving and track those daily physical activities as we attempt to have an entire month of at least 60 minutes of activity every day. Here are a few notes about the program.
- The program will run from October 3 – October 28 (four weeks).
- Students track daily activity minutes and weekly totals and have their form signed by a parent. Students must record activity for all four weeks.
- Completed Activity Logs must be submitted to Mr. Bruns by November 1st.
- Participating students will earn small prizes for participating
- A few BCPS students will be chosen to attend a Ravens game in early January.
October Food Drive
Did you know that one-third of the people served by emergency food programs are children? We need you to help these hungry children have a good meal, so they can learn. This will help students have an opportunity to learn about hunger and help other children in need.
From Monday October 3rd -October 31st, Lutherville Lab will be collecting non-perishables to support the Baltimore Hunger Project. Please send in: Canned tuna and chicken, granola bars (crunchy or chewy), protein bars, single-serve cereal boxes, fruit snacks(single serving pouches), applesauce pouches (no cups, please), and juice boxes.
Collected items can be brought to tables that will be setup in the hallway near the cafeteria. There are attached documents related to the food drive. Thank you in advance for your support!
