Ross / Ellis Weekly Newsletter
January 15, 2016
"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young."
What Will We Be Learning This Week?
Math
Students will continue their study of fractions next week. They will be adding and subtracting mixed numbers, reducing fractions, multiplying fractions by whole numbers and finding fractions of numbers. Students have been reviewing the skills of multiplication and long division this week. Many continue to need practice with these skills.
Accelerated Math: Students will not be expected to meet a goal next week as they will be in school for only two days. They will have two extra days to meet goal for the following week.
Science
Students have enjoyed learning about the phases of the moon this week. They should know that there are 8 phases of the moon and what those phases are. Students have also learned that the moon orbits Earth in 29 and ½ days, that the moon does not change shape, and what we see of the moon is related to where it is in its orbit around Earth. We will be learning more next week at the Science Center.
Language Arts
Words Their Way spelling lists will resume January 25.

Also, please email either Ms. Ellis or Mr. Ross with the subject "Friday Oh Yeah!" for a free homework pass for your child. Please don't spread this around but we want to give a small incentive for parents to keep reading our newsletters. Thank you!
