Science & Social Studies
Class STREAM Challenge: Pom-Pom Launcher
Using only the items in a mystery bag, students will design, create, test, and retest a structure with the purpose to move a pom-pom the farthest distance.
Social Studies: We're finishing our will be Native Californians unit with our Compare/Contrast iMovies. With a partner who researched another tribe, students created an iMovie with that explained the similarities and differences between the two tribes' geographical locations, cultures, natural resources uses, and tools created/used. The next unit is the Explorers!
New Class Read Aloud
Heartbreakingly insightful, this poetic book about a gorilla at a down-and-out mall exhibit is a moving masterpiece about animal rights.
New Lunches at SP
7 Habits Speech Competition
WHEN? Auditions in the theater on Tuesday, January 12th during 4th grade's play time
DETAILS: The speech's topic is "What do the 7 Habits Mean to Me?" or "Why the 7 Habits are Important Skills for Success" (including personal examples from school, family, and/or community life).
Speech should be no longer than 2 minutes, and be well rehearsed, with the speaker showing great eye contact, expression, and speaking clearly and loudly.
I encourage all students to audition for this great experience!
Upcoming Biography Book & Presentation
A Scholastic Book order will be going home today that is filled with interesting biography books at a 4th grade reading level. I'll be submitting biography book orders this Friday, but just a warning it will still take 7-10 days for shipping.
Estimated Timeline:
*By Jan 15: Select book and begin reading
*By Jan. 29: Finish reading biography book and complete the notes packet. (Please note, notes will be taken at school and at home so it's important that the biography and notes are taken home and brought back to school each day.)
