River Mill Elementary
Virtual School Week #2, 3/30/20
Happy Sunday everyone!
I hope you enjoyed your spring break and you are all safe, happy, and healthy. I miss all of you and I know that the River Mill Staff is feeling the same way. I loved the feedback and I am glad you are enjoying my videos. Starting this week I will do a video on Thursday mornings as our new “Friday Morning Assembly”. I want to give you a rundown of what is happening this 2nd week of our virtual school. Breakfast and lunch drop off will begin again at your bus stop. Stay tuned for more info from the district, coming soon.
Monday, March 30th: Limited staff will be in the building preparing and handing out devices as needed. We will be honoring the social distancing rules, so please do the same. We will be using the side office window in the vestibule. We will have markers to spread out the line, as you are waiting to get to the window. If you have communicated with your teacher that you need a device we have them ready for you. If you missed that communication, let us know and we will try and get you what you need. Please come by Monday between 9:00-11:00 or 1:00-3:00. If you can’t make those times, we will be working with our bus routes during food drop off to get them to you on Tuesday.
Tuesday, March 31st: Teachers will be preparing their online virtual school lessons.
Wednesday, April 1st, and Thursday, April 2nd: Virtual school begins again. If you need help setting up and getting online your teacher is ready to help. To get your attendance counted for each day, teachers will be connecting with you through a two-way connection or the completion of assignments. The best advice is to get into a routine and stick to a schedule. This is our new normal, we have to let some old norms go and make what we have work. We stand ready to support you through this change. Try not to stress, it will be okay.
Friday, April 3rd: No school, teacher workday. Virtual school will only be Monday-Thursday until we get back to school.
What you can expect in a typical virtual school day.
2 hours of work start to finish. You can break that up, however it best fits your family’s schedule. Try and do it the same way every Monday-Thursday if possible.
Connect with your teacher for attendance Monday-Thursday.
There will be a morning meeting every Monday, sometimes more.
You will be completing something in 4 areas each day 1. Math 2. Reading/Writing 3. Science, Social Studies, or Health 2. Music or PE.
You will be using an online platform like google classroom or Seesaw to log into for assignments and instruction.
There will be a variety of activities to complete.
You may be logging into multiple apps. Have a login sheet handy so that you know your Google login for email, google classroom, etc. and for other apps like Lexia and Freckle.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. We have lots of people ready and willing to support. We are pioneers in a new world and we are in this together.
As we are using technology more, be very mindful of what your child is doing on their device. Total freedom on the internet is dangerous and not appropriate for children. Kiddle is a safer search engine that is supported by Google, but the best safety measure is being fully monitored by an adult.
Tenemos mucha gente lista y dispuesta a apoyar.
