Back to School Health & Safety
Mandatory COVID-19 Testing for Employees
- The Board of Education gave direction Tuesday to implement mandatory weekly COVID-19 testing for all unvaccinated employees, effective next week.
- Governor Newsom announced Wednesday afternoon that weekly testing would be mandated for unvaccinated employees in K-12 schools statewide.
- Employees who provide proof of their vaccination status will be exempt from mandatory testing. Weekly testing for vaccinated employees is strongly encouraged.
Asymptomatic Testing for Students
- Glendale Unified will have medical professionals assigned every school day to every school site to provide COVID-19 testing and other health-related services.
- Regular, asymptomatic testing is strongly encouraged for all students.
- Parents/guardians may complete an opt-in form to authorize testing so their student may be tested at their request without a parent/guardian present.
Any student or employee who has a direct exposure to a positive case of COVID-19 while on a school campus or district facility will be immediately offered the opportunity for testing.
Ruvna Daily Health Screening
Glendale Unified School District uses the Ruvna Health Screening System for daily health screening of students and employees. Parents/guardians will receive an email and/or text message every school day at 6:30 a.m. with a link to complete the health screen for your student(s) before arriving at school.
To help families become familiar with Ruvna notifications before the first day of school, we will be sending two practice notifications to parents/guardians on Monday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 17 at 8:00 a.m.
Additional Health and Safety Measures: Layers of Mitigation
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Glendale Unified has implemented multiple layers of mitigation to protect our students and employees. We continuously update our health and safety measures based on guidelines from the California and Los Angeles County Public Health Departments.
Current Glendale Unified health and safety protocols include:
- Masks and physical distancing according to Public Health guidelines.
- Daily health screening.
- Frequent hand washing encouraged.
- Cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
- MERV-13 and HEPA filters in all classrooms and workspaces.
- Mandatory weekly COVID-19 testing for all unvaccinated employees (weekly testing is strongly encouraged for vaccinated employees).
- Voluntary asymptomatic testing for all students.
- Quarantine, isolation, contact tracing, and notification protocols.
We continue to update our protocols and bring you the latest health and safety information online.
