Jefferson County Students Return to Traditional School Setting
Students whose families designated them as remote learners for the second nine weeks will resume classes using the remote schedules you were sent by the school. This includes any student who is home for a 14-day quarantine or a 10-day isolation.
CMS families, please remember to . . .
- Have your student charge his/her Chromebook tonight
- Bring his/her Chromebook to school in the morning.
- Bring his/her mask to school to wear as we return to campus
- Bring water to drink throughout the day if desired (no soft drinks, sports drinks, or energy drinks)
We want to work to ensure a safe return to school, resume our academic work with students in our classrooms, and continue providing in-class and after-school activities that will continue to grow our students and prepare them for the next school year!
Finish the Second Quarter Strong by Completing Any Required Make-Up Work for Class
We have TEN DAYS left in the first term at Corner Middle School. All students who have work to be made up must have completed that work by Wednesday, January 20, 2021, unless there was approval given by a teacher and/or an administrator. First semester averages will need to be calculated prior to report cards being printed and sent home.
Recently, there were questions from CMS parents about a statement made by Dr. Gonsoulin regarding the use of the final week for credit recovery. In reviewing the statement and checking with the district for clarification, Dr. Gonsoulin stated we would forgo semester exams and nine weeks tests to allow for time for credit recovery and for continued instruction.
We have been providing opportunities for make-up work EVERY DAY we have been in school. Make-up work is the responsibility of the student based on an absence. The vast majority (92%) of our students are traditional learners who are on campus. While we recognize some students have had to quarantine or isolate, those students still have had the opportunity to log on to WebEx classes and complete work in Schoology.
Families who have concerns regarding make-up work for the second nine weeks should do the following:
- Log into the Chalkable home portal using the information each family was given at registration or upon enrollment and look at your student's CURRENT progress report.
- Review with your student at home what he or she seems to be missing.
- Log into Schoology with your student and encourage them to 1.) Look for the assignment, 2.) Work on and complete the assignment, and 3.) Submit the assignment.
- If there is an issue with your student accessing the work or understanding the task, have the student 1.) E-mail the teacher with questions, 2.) Ask the teacher questions when he/she is in class, 3.) Request to go work with the teacher and receive assistance during advisory or intervention time, and 4.) Contact the school's main office with technology issues.
- Families should then monitor the home portal in Chalkable. Families, please remember . . . your student is turning this work in AFTER the original deadline and the teacher is moving/has moved on to new instruction where she or he is grading new materials and assessment. Please be patient as they work to review, assess, and grade a large amount of late work . . . not just YOUR student's work.
- If there are still questions, please contact the teacher by e-mail or call the office to leave a message for the teacher who can assist in answering your question.
