From the Principal's Desk
There are so any exciting things to look forward to as the year unfolds. As we welcome a new class of Pre-K and Kindergarten students, it reminds me of the gift of learning and how precious it is. We look forward to sharing the journey with you.
Below are a few items I would like to bring to your attention:
Beginning at 7:30 am, your child will be able to go to the playgrounds and/or get breakfast in the cafeteria. Teachers will be on duty and will not be available in the mornings to meet with parents. After the first day, parents will not be permitted to go to the classrooms in the mornings. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to increase the educational opportunities for your children.
Consistent attendance is the number one thing a parent can do to help their child's education. This also includes ensuring they arrive on time each morning. Students are considered tardy if they are not in their classroom at 8:00. Tardies and absences count towards a students attendance history and are subject to attendance laws. Please see Mrs. Stewart or Mr. Sciba if you have any questions about attendance.
Birthday Treat Procedures
Birthday treats will be given during the last 10 minutes of the lunch period in the cafeteria. We ask that you consider a small cupcake, cookie or donut. Please arrange the date with your child's teacher.
Lunch System Online Payments
Child Nutrition has a payment system for parents to apply money to their child's account. The website is www.myschoolbucks.com. The information is on our website as well. Parents will need to create a new account if you are new. The fee for using the system is $1.95 per credit card transaction.
Lunch Applications for Free/Reduced Meals
Please access the form to apply Free/Reduced Meals. This is application must be updated yearly to continue to qualify for assistance. https://www.myschoolapps.com/
If you are making a change to your child's regular transportation, please send a note to school. We will not be able to accept phone calls or emails to change transportation. Transportation changes must be made before 2:30.
Thank you for entrusting us with your most precious gift,
Message From Your Assistant Principal...
Hey Racoons! I've already met so many amazing families here at Rice and I can't wait to introduce mine! I've been married to my high school sweetheart for about 12 years now. We have two beautiful boys...Ryder is a 4th grader and Tyler is 4. I've been an educator for 12 years. I was a teacher and then became an elementary assistant principal in Clear Creek ISD. We are excited to come to Conroe ISD to plant our family roots. As a mom and an educator, I know it takes a strong community to meet the needs of our students. Please let me know how I can help anytime.

Pre-K is off to an awesome start! Here are a few reminders for the school year. First, school begins at 8:00 for morning students, and school begins at 12:10 for afternoon students. Please make sure your child is at school and on time. It is very important for their development! Second, write your child’s name inside his/her coat and backpack. Third, leave a complete change of clothing, including socks, in a gallon Ziploc bag in their backpack. Remember reading to your child nightly is the greatest gift you can give them! We are looking forward to a successful year with lots of fun and learning! Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions. Thank you for all your support!
We are excited to have your child in Kindergarten at BB Rice. The first month of school we will be focusing on a few important concepts such as:
identifying and writing our name
identifying and writing uppercase and lowercase letters
corresponding the correct sound to each letter
identifying and writing numbers 0-10
following 1-2 step directions
Please work with your child at home on these concepts!
Please put your child’s first and last name on jackets, backpacks, lunch boxes, etc in case they are misplaced.
Please make sure to send an extra set of clothes (socks and underwear included) in a gallon sized bag to keep in your child’s backpack.
If you need to send money to school, please place it in a sealed envelope with your child’s first and last name, the amount of money included, and the destination of the money (Ex: John Smith, $20, lunch money)
Welcome to 1st grade! This month, your child will be learning many new concepts. In Math, they will be learning how sort data using a graph, and addition and subtraction within 5. Please count from 0 to 120 with your child daily. This will help them be successful in our upcoming math units!
In Language Arts, we will be reviewing Kindergarten sight words, introducing Writer's Workshop, and establishing routines for Reader’s Workshop. We will also begin practicing writing small moments.
Social Studies will be integrated into language arts with a focus on citizenship, pledges, and freedom. In Science, we must learn the foundations of being a scientist and science safety.
Please begin an evening reading routine with your child if you do not already have one. This could be you reading to them or them reading to you. Reading helps them grow in so many ways! We are excited to have your child in our classroom. We will be encouraging your child to try everything when it comes to exploring new school concepts. We cannot wait to watch them grow this year!
Your children are off to a great start in second grade! We have started off the year learning about raccoons, science safety, handwriting, reading, word work, patterns and numbers and citizenship. We have a busy year ahead of us, and no time to waste. We will be testing all second graders on their fluency and phonemic awareness at the beginning of school. We would like to have a conference with all parents to discuss our classroom procedures, let you know how your children are doing, and to also fill you in on everything you need to know about second grade. Please schedule a conference with your child’s teacher at your earliest convenience. We would also like to emphasize the importance of practicing sight words, vocabulary words, and math facts (addition and subtraction through 18) each night. We appreciate all your support and are looking forward to working together to make your child’s second grade year spectacular!
Welcome to 3rd grade! We are going to be learning so much this year and look forward to a wonderful school year.
In Math, we will are studying place value up to 100,000. Please work with your child on the value of each digit. Science have been discussing science safety and will begin working on properties and states of matter. In Social Studies, we are discussing our roles in the classroom and community of the school. The choice we make affect ourselves and others.
Your readers will be learning how to build a powerful reading life! We will choose just right books and dive into the genre of fiction. We will learn about character traits, story elements and retelling of stories. Your writers will begin to gather topics and compose a personal narrative.
Here are our 4th grade teachers; Ms. Simon, Mrs. Haugen, Mrs. Morgan and Mr. Gasper and Ms. Hargitay. We are settling into our routine and have established our classroom and homework expectations. Please make sure that your child is completing his/her homework and returning it daily. Your 4th grader has a Student Planner/Calendar that shows the week’s assignments, so be sure to ask your student about it.
We are excited about all the reading and writing opportunities this year. The focus will continue to be on comprehension and increased stamina for reading longer periods of time. We will be teaching our objectives through different reading genres, such as poetry, informational, drama, and fiction. Fourth grade is also a time of writing compositions in preparation for the Writing STAAR test. We are developing skills necessary to write both narrative and expository compositions. Writing complete sentences with elaboration and punctuation has been our major focus so far.
In math, students have been working on place value. Our students will be doing lots of computation practice in addition and subtraction, as well as multiplication. Memorization of facts is so important to be successful in solving multiple step problems and higher-level questions.
Our 4th grade scientists have been learning lab safety and thinking like a scientist and will begin studying matter.
In social studies, the students have been learning the symbols of Texas and will be reviewing their map skills in preparation for the study of the regions of our great state. Ask your student what he/she has learned about the U.S. Constitution!
Thanks for all you do to help your child be successful. If you have not scheduled a conference with your child’s teacher, please do so soon. It takes all of us working together for a great 4th grade year.
