Leadership Notes:
Dear Cimarron Families,
Thank you for your continued partnership during this busy time of year. Cimarron has many exciting learning opportunities coming up, as well as Teacher Appreciation Week. Watch for an email from PTO to see how you can help to make this a great week for our staff!
The Parker community is so lucky to have popular author, psychologist and pediatrician, Dr. Leonard Sax share insights about the struggles of students growing up in a modern day society. Join us on May 1 at Cimarron for this event! (see details below)
Dr. Sax speaks to schools and community groups across the United States and around the world about the needs and struggles of parenting in today’s society. I have had the opportunity to read his books and these have been a model for me as a parent and educator. Here is a quote I refer to often as I talk to parents:
“Today, for most kids in the United States and Canada, kids’ primary attachment is to other kids. “For the first time in history,” Neufeld observes, “young people are turning for instruction, modeling, and guidance not to mothers, fathers, teachers, and other responsible adults but to people whom nature never intended to place in a parenting role—their own peers. .”
This opportunity will be worth getting a babysitter and will change your perspective of parenting!

Thank you,
Chris Zimmerman

A parent education program on Social Media and Online Behavior
What do parents need to know about Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and the social media tools their kids are using? What are kids really doing online and on their smartphones? How can parents effectively monitor this technology? How much screen time is too much for any age? How much should parents know about what their kids are doing online? What does the research show? Dr. Sax will answer these questions and more, and empower parents with effective strategies for addressing these topics at home. Parent of Lower, Middle, and Upper School students are encouraged to attend this parent-focused discussion.

It's a great resource for parents, educators and families. Given the timeliness of the information in this documentary, Girl Scout Troop 1068 is hosting a screening at the Parker Library.
