Student Placement Survey for 2018-2019 School Year
In the spring, we naturally think of new beginnings. As educators, springtime signifies the beginning of our planning for the next school year.
As parents, this time of year prompts us to think of our children moving to a new grade level and class placement. Be assured that a great deal of thought and effort will go into the process of forming new classes for next year, just as it has in previous years. Each student will be placed into an instructional group for next year with input from a variety of sources. Input will be solicited from the current classroom teachers, counselors and other staff members who may have pertinent information. Classes will be formed based on factors including a match of student and teacher, the blend of students within a room, and the balance of the classes academically, socially, culturally and by gender.
While the process we use is comprehensive, if you as a parent would like to give further input regarding your child’s needs, you are welcome to do so. However, specific individual teacher requests will not be accepted. If you have information you would like to share, please be sure to make your requests based on educational factors unique to your child’s needs and these will be considered as we make our final decisions.
Reasons for your requests might include:
- Traits and characteristics of your child that most affect his/her learning
- Traits and characteristics of a teacher that will facilitate your child’s learning
- The type of educational setting you feel will best meet your child’s needs
So that we can organize the information and use it for planning purposes, please click the appropriate link below to submit the information to us. Again, please refrain from naming specific teachers as these requests will not be accepted. Please submit this information by May 11, 2018.

Fact
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. One bad sunburn in childhood doubles the risk of skin cancer later in life. Damage from exposure to UV rays builds up over time, so sun protection should start at an early age. Most skin cancers can be prevented.
Skin Cancer Prevention in Schools
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Guidelines for School Programs to Prevent Skin Cancer, outlines steps that school communities can take to develop a comprehensive approach to reducing the risk for skin cancer among students, teachers, staff and visitors.
Skin Cancer Protective Behaviors
The CDC recommends using various methods that reduce exposure to the full spectrum of UV radiation as the first line of protection against skin cancer, and using sunscreen as a complementary measure.
• Minimize exposure to the sun during peak hours 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Seek shade from the midday sun 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
• Wear protective clothing, hats and sunglasses that protect the skin.
• Use a broad spectrum sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or more.
• Avoid sunlamps and tanning beds.
