District Cross Country Meet!

Sherman Middle School cross country finished strong! Our boys received 2nd in District - SMS now has our first UIL TROPHY! We also had Aiden Ruiz, 7th grader finish in 1st place & Kaiden Hernandez, 8th grader finish in 1st place ! We are so proud of you & all of our XC athletes for their effort and attitude!

CTE: STEM Class

CTE students in Ms. Cagle's STEM & Robotics class built and prepared their air skimmers on Friday! They set up in the hallway to launch and measure the distance they traveled. Fun connecting and learning with hands-on activities!

Virtual Author Visit!

Sherman Middle and Piner are excited to welcome Young Adult author Alan Gratz! On October 26th, Alan Gratz will be visiting with our students about his new book Ground Zero. Ground Zero is the story of Brandon, who is trapped in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Alan Gratz is the New York Times bestselling author of seventeen novels for young readers, including Ground Zero, Refugee, Allies, Grenade, Prisoner B-3087, and Projekt 1065. A Knoxville, Tennessee native, Alan is now a full-time writer living in Asheville, North Carolina with his wife and daughter.

This is an amazing opportunity for our students and we would like to thank Melissa Salazar from the Sherman Public Library for facilitating this visit.

8th Grade Science Fun!

The 8th Grade Science Department conducted labs covering physical vs. chemical reactions all last week, they participated in hands-on learning activities in class and also took classes outside for some serious pyrotechnics!


Activities will include:


-Glo-stick lab

-Fun with hydrochloric acid!

-Law of Conservation of Mass lab

-Pop-top lab

-Mentos/Diet Coke demo

-Sodium & Water explosion lab

-MRE Bomb demo (thermal expansion)

-Elephant Toothpaste lab

-Fried Gummi-Bear execution lab

-Exploding Pumpkins lab

Sherman ISD requires background checks for volunteers and other purposes. If you plan to volunteer or have been instructed to submit a background check, please review the following:

  • Completion of this form is required once each year.
  • Background checks are cleared at the end of the school year by the last week of June.
  • New background checks can be submitted for a new school year starting in July.
  • Use your legal name as it appears on your driver's license or other official ID.
  • This form requires either a Social Security Number or Visa Number in order to complete the application.
  • Background results may take 3-5 business days to complete.

Sherman Middle School serves 6th, 7th & 8th grade students with a wide variety of activities and opportunities where they can explore their full potential as young Bearcats both on campus and in the community. The campus provides a supportive school atmosphere that focuses on the development of well-rounded students by meeting the social and emotional needs of all students. All students are encouraged to be involved in both academics and extra-curricular activities and the campus encourages parents to become active educational partners to ensure success for all students.
