Coyote Staff Update

Glows

I was reviewing our walk-through observation data for the last few months. Our students are WRITING (96% of classes). Most classes have strong, clearly observable writing instruction and the accompanying healthy writing routines. Additionally, most instructors are making the use of rigorous academic vocabulary and speaking routines a priority. While the number of classes observed in academic conversations was still small, it grew. Great job, y'all!

Thank you to the many staff members sent me their plans for MAP data and stretch goals. Remember, when working with students on goals, we want to stretch them. Meeting their projected growth won't really MOVE them and won't help to close the achievement gap.

Minimum Day Schedule

Please refer to the bell schedule for exact start and end bells. As a reminder (noon duties are on duty for these lunch/breaks:

Kinder (lunch only): 10:00-10:15. Please drop them off and pick them up at the MPR

1st grade: 10:10-10:30. They can eat or play but can't do both. They won't have time. Walk them to the MPR door. The ones that want to play will come in. The ones that want to play will go to the yard. We will line them up on their lines for pick up.

4th/5th grade: 10:30-10:50. See first grade comments

Honor Roll/MAP Growth Celebratin

We will host our Second Trimester 4th/5th Grade Honor Roll and Winter MAP growth celebration on Friday, March 13th at 8:30 AM. Last year, we recognized students who made great growth and who had high achievement on MAP ELA and MAP Math. All fourth and fifth grade students will attend and select 4th-5th graders will attend.

Update, Information on Covid-19

FSUSD is open for business and we are encouraging students to come to school if they are healthy. Any decisions around our schools and District will be made in close collaboration with the Solano County Public Health Department. Thank you for doing your best to downplay fear and to stay the course.

Mystery Science has a lesson this week on the spreading of germs. I'd consider using it along with a discussion with students about appropriate conversation regarding COVID-19. We had a few reports of insensitive and even prejudice comments by some students regarding the origin of the virus.
