Gladiator Greatness

The iliad Literary-Art Magazine hosted the 2019 Creative Writing Celebration on September 18th. Students shared their written and visual art pieces with a crowd of their peers, parents, faculty, and community members. See pictures from the event in the Odyssey Newsmagazine.

Genesis Brown & Jaimeline Gonzalez-Martinez (freshman), Ka’mora Walter & Sakaiah Browner (sophomore), Gabrielle Jones, Brianna St. Pierre, Camille Thomas, & Courtney Smith (junior), Alaijah Roach, Dre’meriya Fortson, Aleena Joseph, Senorra Baldwin, Miayata Freeman & Jocelyn Jones (senior), and James Sunta, Omar Lester, Oscar Jimenez, Robert Isakovich, Cullen Pynn, & Zumer Alam (Homecoming King Finalists).
JV and Varsity Academic Teams are both undefeated having recently beaten Winder Barrow and Apalachee. Congratulations to Varsity Team members Everett Vereen, Will Harden, Micah Shannon, Abel Goodwin, Tomas Dougan, Ted White, Anthony Peterson, Cassius Tunis, and Monica Graham as well as to the JV Team Luke Krohn, Ludwig Lechtreck, Xander Sweet, Adam Carabello, Cullen Bruner, and Henry Frierson. Go Glads!
The Odyssey Media Group attended the Georgia Scholastic Press Association's Fall Conference at The Classic Center on September 19th. Read and watch a video of their trip on the OMG website.
Congratulations to The Gladiator Raiders who competed at the Cedar Shoals Classic City Raider Competition and finished 3rd overall. There were over 40 teams competing in three categories. Out of five events, The Glad Raiders finished 3rd in the physical team test and 4th in the remaining events.

The varsity football team beat Oconee County 28-21 on August 30th. See pictures of the game on Online Athens.
Art teacher Amanda Price will lead two sessions at the National Art Education Association National Convention in Minneapolis in March of next year. Ms. Price will present her projects "Taking a Stab at Activism with Sculptural Needle Felting" and "Paving the Way to Conservation with Mosaics." The latter was also the recipient of a 2019 Foundation for Excellence grant.
Edwin Summerour (Class of 2019) returned to Athens to play with Murray State in their game against UGA on September 7th. Read about Edwin and his football career in the Athens Banner-Herald's article "Clarke Central's Summerour Comes Home with Murray State."
Senior Alex Robinson was nominated by the social studies department to be this year's United States Senate Youth Program nominee. Read more about this program on their website.
