Message From the Principal
I hope your family enjoyed some time off from school last week. As I was talking with some of the students about what they did last week, some of them went on trips with their families, while others stuck around home and dealt with the not-so-nice weather. Speaking of weather, please check the weather forecast and send your kids to school with adequate coats, hats, etc. The weather can change on a dime, and we want our students to be prepared.
Our lost and found is starting to build back up again, and when a coat is found without a name on the tag, it's difficult to know who it belongs to, so please write their name on the tag as well. Any items left after school gets out for the summer get donated to a local charity.
As we get closer to May, please be aware that 3rd grade is when the state assessment, Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA), begins. 3rd grade students will be assessed in ELA (English Language Arts), which is reading and writing, and math. The first part of each assessment is multiple choice/short answer types of questions for both ELA and Math. The second part of the assessment is planning and writing to prompts for ELA, and problem solving (story problems) for math. We break the assessments apart so kids aren't testing all day long for multiple days in a row. Students are also given practice and training tests so they know what the assessment looks like (without the actual questions), and know what tools are available to them (online calculator, etc.). Please see the upcoming dates and activities section below for the dates of the 3rd grade assessment.
The final nomination period for Highly Capable testing opens June 1, and closes June 10 at noon. Evaluations will begin the week of June 13.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Pat Webster--Head Learner

A responsibility: something you are expected to do.
Being responsible: doing the things you are supposed to do.
