Room #135 News!

Welcome to Mrs. Blevins' Online News Broadcast!

Our classroom stresses the importance of working at ones' full potential. Our students are given opportunities to do their personal best during every activity. In order to determine your child's needs, continuous assessment takes place. All activities are designed so that every student in our classroom is working at a challenging and rewarding level. Throughout the school year, I promote working together to create an open teacher-parent-student communication relationship. I feel it is in your child's best interest if we work together and stay in contact with one another in order for him/her to be successful! Feel free to navigate the Blevins Broadcast at your convenience where you will find classroom news, slideshows, upcoming events, our week at a glance, a note from the teacher, and other pertinent information!

GPS Field Trip, June 4th!

For the second year, our 6th graders will learn more about latitude and longitude coordinates while walking throughout Flushing. The students will be divided into 6 different groups, with about 15 students per group along with one teacher. They will be given a set of latitude and longitude coordinates and the groups' goal is to find each landmark throughout Flushing. We will need two students from each classroom who would be able to carry their phones that have a data plan to locate and take pictures of these landmarks. We plan on leaving at 12:00 and returning around 2:30.

One of our stops will be at the A&W! They will provide a sack lunch that includes Hot dog, Fries, and a drink. The cost of this will be $4.25. If your child would like to bring their own sack lunch, that is okay as well.

Please return the permission slip along with $4.25 to your child's teacher no later than Monday, June 1st.

Word Study

We did it! No more Word Study for the rest of the year! Students have learned 30 weeks worth of Greek/Latin root words. We took the final exam on Thursday and the students did well, please let me know if your child would like to retake it before the end of the marking period.

Reading

We have began reading, Rascal. We will be comparing and contrasting Rascal's Setting with Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, and Devil's Arithmetic. They all take place during the same time period!

Students received their two monthly reading logs for the month of May. One is an "At Home" Reading Log. Students need to complete and fill out the log after reading 20 minutes everyday. The same applies for the "At School" Reading Log. They are responsible to be filling this out after IDR/DAILY 4 time in class. Both are DUE on Monday, June 1st with a parent signature. They are also available on my teacher webpage for your reference.
